Apparently, I'm the Asshole

5-24-2011

One of the funniest things about WoW is how people behave in the game. You can troll trade chat all day, and you'll have at least some people lol'ing at what you say. But dare to correct them on grammar or spelling, and they'll fly into a frothing rage, hell-bent on making you pay for opening your mouth.

My comment was innocous enough, just a minor correction. Hell, I wasn't even doing the regular "It's ROGUE, not rouge" thing. But I'm the insensitive person in this minor drama, I realize now. By rectifying what the first person said, I made them look foolish, and that's an unforgiveable insult to some of these people. After all, WoW rep is almost like real life reputation. Gotta represent!

A day in the life of a Fury Warrior

1/21/08
Bullkathos traveled a lot these weekend, met new and interesting monsters, and killed them. I started out by fishing for the Sartheris Striker (fishing quest) and doing the troll killing quests in STV, since I needed 30 of them for the “Cyclonian” warrior quest. Since I was there, I decided to do a bunch of the other troll killing quests that were offered in Grom’gol, then I went to scout out Nessingwary’s expedition. I didn’t do the different beast killing quests, but I’ll probably get around to it.

After that, it was off to Swamp of Sorrow for the last fish in the fishing quest. Here’s a hint: Don’t run along the southern mountains when you’re level 35-40, and want to complete the quest. Go along the northern path, fighting or avoiding the monsters and humanoids there. They’re lower level, and it gets you to a deserted shoreline, without pesky 42+ murlocs.

Following that, it was off to Desolace, to pick up some easy XP, or so I thought. I was level 39 and a half by then, so I thought I’d pick up some easy XP by doing the goblin turn-in quests, and talking to Martek (quest from goblins in Shimmering Flats). Well, I did those quests, and it wasn’t enough! So, I did the Badlands Reagent run, coupled with the Coyote tooth and the lesser elemental stone quests. Those quests take freakin’ forever! I also discovered the other quest giver by Martek gives the Blue Pearl Diving quest, which gives you the Flashbomb engineering recipe. I had already done diving there while I was in STV, so now I know where to go, if I decide it’s worth doing. Ehh, it probably is.

So now any character that goes to the Badlands will have a grocery list of easy turn-in quests. 9 Blue Pearls, 1 Frost Oil, 1 Gyrochronomatom, 1 lesser invisibility + 1 Healing potion, 2 Buzzard wings, talk to Sheena? (travel quest from Stonard). After that, I warped home to Thunder Bluff, got my level 40 skills, and jumped off Hunter Rise. I popped my Parachute Cloak, and landed right by a white wolf. It was Ghost Howl, and I guess I hadn’t done that quest with Bull, because the cloak dropped, so I was able to turn in the quest when I got my Gray Kodo mount from Bloodhoof village. I paid 76 gold for Riding skill training, and I think about 8 gold for the mount. Not bad, and I still had 240 gold remaining, hehe. After that, I rode over to Camp Taurajo, and flew to Dustwallow Marsh.

I did almost all the quests available there, with only a few from Tabetha and Rustsprocket remaining. I got camped by a level 45 rogue by North Point tower, when I was trying to rescue the crew member and get the supplies, but I logged out for a bit, and I wasn’t bothered when I came back in. Most of the quests were easy, and I discovered that they had added a bunch of new quests in the 2.3 patch. Before, when you met Jarl at Swamplight Manor, the first quest was 3 soothing spices, the 2nd was 20 spider eyes, and the 3rd was a moonsteel broadsword. The soothing spices are no problem, but the cost to make a moonsteel broadsword is prohibitive, and nobody really buys it on the AH. Now you kill 10 frogs around the house, get the 20 eyes, and go kill a level 36 murloc for his sword.

After I had finished the quests in the northern part of Dustwallow, I headed south, killed Deadmire, and did a few of the Tabetha quests. One of them was a travel quest to Beazil’s Wreck, which is a new area. Just east of Tabetha, you have to pop oozes by using electricity channeling into your body, and pick up crates of supplies. Pretty fun, actually.

What wasn’t fun was the Flamekin dragonkin/Mor’rok supplies/dragonling quests. I don’t mind the specified “kill X number of these monsters” type of quest, but I hate the drop rate quests, when you have to depend on chance to give you a quest item drop. I did pretty well fighting the dragonkin, even when I had 3 of them grouped up on me. Fury warrior means a lot of rage, and a lot of multi-hits. I’d start fights with Berzerker rage, hit my macro to lower their chance to hit and to daze them, and continue with a Dense dynamite blast. I’d have a lot of rage built up by then, so I’d activate Sweeping Strikes, then finish them off with Cleaves. After I got the flight point for Rustsprocket, I hearthed home to dump off my items, include a nice blue lvl 31 ring (Ring of the Underwood?) that had +2 str/10 agi/3 stamina that I think I’ll save for my druid. Then I teleported to Gadgetzan, did the Gadgetzan water dowsing quest (run west to a pool of water, channel for a couple of seconds, and mount up!! before 2 lvl 47 beetles kill you. I went to the Shimmering flats, turned in a couple of quests, hearthed home, flew to Ratchet for a turn-in, and then went to Booty bay for a turn-in. I’ve been thinking about how Stranglethorn is set up, and it finally makes sense. It seems that the monsters get higher in level the closer you get to Booty Bay, which makes sense, because Alliance are coming down from Darkshore, and Horde are fighting down from the Grom’gol base camp.

On a side note, I’m a big believer in buffing up my characters with scrolls, potions, and stamina from being well-fed. I also discovered the charges on the Pendant of the Agate Shield and the Aquamarine pendant of the Warrior stack on top of the previous buffs. So, Bullkathos was usually running around with +12 stamina from SpiderSausage, +12 from the Aquamarine Pendant of the Warrior, and +12 from a level 3 or 4 Stamina scroll. 360+ extra health, not bad! I’ll have to add that to my shopping list to look out for on the AH, because it doesn’t seem like you can repair the 10 charges on the necklace. I’ll have to check once I deplete it all the way. I’m not going to make them myself, that would be foolish! :)

There's Arcanite in them thar hills!

1/16/08
A guild member really wants to get an arcanite rod without paying 6 quarts of blood to have it made, so I decided to powerlevel my Horde Warrior Bullkathos from 225 to 275 Blacksmithing, so I could make it for him. I imagine he’s shocked at the prices of Arcanite Bars, which have gone from about 10-12 gold to about 17-25 gold. Since 3 are needed for the Arcanite Rod, that’s pretty pricey. So, I decided to powerlevel my level 36 Warrior to 275 Blacksmithing. This is an expensive process, and I probably missed some skill points I could have used when I would be making items for the Specialization quests. Oh well. Tons of Mithril and Thorium Bars used……tons.

I started off with making as many Inlaid Mithril Cyclinders as I could, so I could squeeze every last skill point out of them. I made about 27+, and then it was taking too long for each skillup after that, so I switched to Mithril Shield spikes at BS lvl 242. That boosted me to 249, and I made 1 Mithril Spur to get me to lvl 250 BS. Dense Grinding stones took me to 260, and I think I made about 12 Mithril Spurs to get me to 267 BS. After that I switched to Thorium Belts, because I was out of Mithril Bars, and had a lot of Thorium Bars I had saved. Those take 12 Thorium Bars and 4 Red Power Crystals, so if you’re powerleveling, and happen to compare Mithril to Thorium, you can usually get them for about the same price. I picked up about 30+ Red Power Crystals from the AH for about 4 gold, and started crafting.

I ran out of Thorium at 274 BS, and the recipe went yellow, so I’ll pick it up tomorrow and get the last skill point by making Thorium Bracers, which are still orange to me. Those require 12 Thorium Bars and 4 Blue Power Crystals, but none were in the AH, so I couldn’t do it. Luckily, one of my guild members was on, so he said he’d go to Un’Goro and pick some up. So once I get to 275 BS, I’ll stay there, and just get some skillups from making Arcanite Rods.

Bullkathos' Day in the Snow

12/28/07

Horde account got 2 more patterns of Gloves of the Greatfather, wooo….. I’ll be able to sell those off during the year, but I’d really like to get the enchanting recipe Winter’s Might. I ported Banesidhe over to UC, flew down to Tarren Mill, and tried to take on the Elite level 36 Abominable Greench. I couldn’t take him down, he kept polymorphing me, and my spells weren’t doing enough damage to him. I had to enlist some help to get him taken care of. However, my level 36 engineer Warrior Bullkathos had no such problems. I found the Greench, set off my Gnomish Attack Chicken, Mechanical Dragonling, and a Compact Harvest Reaper, and let the fun ensue. He kept polymorphing me as well, but with the chicken and dragonling critting him for about 200 damage consistently, his health dropped quickly. I think I used 1 Hi-Explosive bomb after a minute to take another 300 health off him, but my pets did most of the work.

Speaking of engineering, I still haven’t found a point where it doesn’t help me. Before I took on the Greench, I was northwest of Tarren Mill in Corahn’s Dagger, fighting level 33-34 mountain lions and Syndicate mobs. I was trying to boost my dagger skill, as I had picked up a level 37 dagger and enchanted it for Bull to use against the Greench. Well, I did get it from level 1-160, but I took down the Greench before I leveled to 37. Some level 33 Ally paladin kept attacking me while I was boosting my weapon skills, so I had to keep killing the sucka. Bombs and my chicken took him down quickly, even though he kept running around behind me and also using his silly little bubble. I normally don’t pvp, but if someone attacks me, I like to have a good offense.

That’s why I love engineering, it gives any character a lot more options for damage. I should have used my Death Ray to melt that paladin’s armor to his bones…….. :)

On a side note, I also turned in the prerequisite for Cyclonian, and tried to help a level 31 warrior who was doing the quest. That level 40 Elite Elemental is hard! I suppose I should have known it would be, because I normally wouldn’t take on an elite unless I was at/above their level, or playing as a hunter. He would uppercut us for 10 yards, or use twisters to suspend us in the air, and none of my attacks worked on him. We finally had to ask others in the zone for help, and a level 70 hunter took him down in a few shots. The quest requires items from trolls in STV, charms from the elementals in Arathi Highlands, and other items. I’d like to do the quest before I turn 40, so I think I’ll have Bloodshrike gather the charms. Not sure if the other items can only be gathered by a warrior that’s on the quest, but I know the charms can be gathered by anybody.

Now that I’ve gotten my highest 3 characters thru the Greench quest, I need to take them to Tanaris and do the Reindeer quest. My Hunter and Warrior shouldn’t have problems with it, since they’ll be able to use pets/trinket pets/target dummies to distract the pirates, but my mage might suffer. After I do that, I’ll work on my rogue to get him to 35, take up engineering, and kick some Greench butt before he’s gone for the season.

(Edit: Thrillkiller wasn’t able to do it in time. He’s still in Booty Bay, waiting for buyers for the Horde BS recipes. I did find out that Throat Piercers (throwing daggers with +2 agility, buyable from Tranquillien for about 10 silver) will sell on the NAH for 20 gold, probably for twink rogues/warriors.

Into the Fray

12/21/07
I continued the astonishing trend of actually playing my Horde toons! :)
I scraped up enough mats to make 4 silvered bronze boots, and 4 silvered bronze gauntlets, and since I had made 4 solid bronze mauls earlier, that completed the last requirement for the blacksmithing quest I was on, for both my warrior and my rogue. After that, I decided to knock out my Warrior quest “The Islander,” so I flew to Ratchett, and trudged to Fray Island. At level 32, it’s pretty easy. I used a shield, so I didn’t get hurt much, and I had EZ-Thro Dynamite II to help out with the gauntlet of fighters you have to go through. After I beat the last guy down, I got the Intercept and Berzerker Stance skills, making it very difficult to juggle all my available skills.

One of my guildies mentioned using Bongos 2 for my action bars, so I’ll have to check that out. I also decided to work on “Brutal armor,” since I was close to Razorfen Krawl at that point. I got into the instance, and was able to get almost to Roogug, but the shamans fire nova totems took me down quickly once I crossed the vine to the left of the entrance. It also didn’t help that there were three of those shamans, level 25 Elites, and I’m a level 32. But I was pleased at how far I got, considering I went in by myself. Maybe once I get to level 35, and and powerlevel to 300 Engineering, my bombs/Target Dummies/Dragonling/Chicken will help me survive.
