All for engineering, and engineering for all.

12/4/07
I had to make 1 more Fel Iron toolbox last night for Bloodshrike, since he was running out of storage space for all the essences/motes/elemental/core of earth/heart of fire/ichor of undeath that I’ve been bidding on in the AH. I was trying to bid on Fel Iron Bars, but I remember them being 30 silver each on Demon Soul, and the price has jumped. So, I checked Thrillkiller (rogue), and found that he has about 100 Fel Iron Bars and 100 Thorium Bars that I had bid on, and sent to him for safekeeping. It’s nice being rich.
I sent a 20 stack over to Banesidhe (mage), and after I did my mooncloth transmute, I hearthed back to Shattrath, and tipped an engineer 3 gold to do 2 toolboxes for me, with my mats. I might equip one on Banesidhe, but it does make more sense for one of my many engineers to have it, since they’ll put it to more use. It’s cheap, cheap, cheap to make. 5 Fel Iron bars, 2 Fel Iron Bolts (1 bar each), and 1 Fel Iron casing (3 bars) = 10 bars total, or 20 Fel Iron Ore.
I also played a little, surprisingly enough. I want to knock out the dungeons as I’m leveling up, so I’m getting all my characters all the quests for the Deadmines first off. I found that Preyonyou, while level 26, still hadn’t picked up all the VC quests. That took a few hours to accomplish, since I was also doing the murloc quests on the coast, so I’d pick up the Captain Sanders treasure map quest. I did pick it up within my first few Warrior kills, so I was happy. I continued on to do the Defias Militia quest in the hills (Highwaymen, Knuckledusters, Pathfinders), and found that they aren’t necessary to get the VC quests. All you really need to do is fly back and forth between Stormwind, Lakeshire, and Westfall, and then kill the messenger. This unlocks 1 quest from Gryan Stoutmantle, and another quest becomes unlocked on top of the tower if you’ve killed the messenger. The last 3 quests can be picked up in Stormwind: 1 from Shoni the Silent, and the other 2 from Wilder Thistlenettle in a tavern that’s close by Shoni.
And finally, Hangfire is maxed at 225 Engineering. I really like the looks of the Parachute cloak, and I love the effect. I also discovered that the Iron Grenades give you the most bang for your buck. 1 Iron Bar + 1 silk cloth = 2 grenades that do 132 damage and stun for 3 seconds. No Heavy Blasting powder needed, which is good, because my characters are tapped out of Heavy stone and powder.
Including Kishi (still camped in Thelgen Rock), I will have 3 mining characters, all able to mine Mithril Ore. Preyonyou (until level 35, when she’ll go JC), Aosdanasaoi, and Kishigishi (once she gets to 155 mining, so I can powerlevel her with gold ore).
The breakdown for all professions on my Ally account is:
3 Miners - Preyonyou (until level 35, when she’ll go JC), Aosdanasaoi, and Kishigishi.
2 Skinners – Ryoushigishi and Doomslinger (until lvl 35, when she’ll go alchemy).
2 alchemists – Gwiddonyn and Doomslinger (at 35)
1 Tailor – Preyonyou.
1 Jewelcrafter – Preyonyou (at 35).
1 Enchanter – Clockwrkmage
1 Leatherworker – Tsuris.
1 Blacksmith – Panzergishi.
9 Engineers – Everyone except Preyonyou.
1 Herbalist – Hangfire
……and a partridge in a pear tree!

Leveling with Hangfire

10\23\07
Level 19 on my Ally druid Hangfire, almost 20. I finally, finally took down Murkdeep (quest from the Wanted poster in Auberdine) in Darkshore. Seriously, I think they changed him in the patch. The quest log says something about him protecting the murloc village, but it doesn’t say anything about having to run a gauntlet before taking him on.
When I’ve killed him before, he’s always been in the center of the murlocs huts, by or on top of the fire. I use a ranged attack to tempt him out to me, and just concentrate all attacks on him. As soon as I kill him, I take off before I’m killed by the adds from the village.
Now….he’s not around at all. I was level 16 with my druid, feeling cocky because I had engineering bombs and some regular healing potions, in addition to being able to heal myself. I decided to try to take him down at an early level, since I was down there getting remains on the shore to turn in. No Murkdeep anywhere. I had downloaded Lightheaded (gives you notes on each quest that pop out of your quest log) this weekend, and some of the notes mentioned said that you need to start killing the Warriors and Hunters in the village. They’re about lvl 16-17, so I figured it would be good XP, and still pretty easy. I kill all the murlocs in the village, and Murkdeep runs out with 2 more murlocs, and kills me before I had a chance to recover from the last fight.
I tried again, with the same result. Again, Murkdeep waited until I had cleared the village, then 3 coastrunners came running out of the water to attack me, then Murkdeep came while I was recovering. It reminded me of the Horde quest “King of the Foulweald” in Ashenvale. Waves after waves coming at you, with very little time to recover.
I finally decided to go run some other quests in Darkshore, and come back when I was lvl 18, since that was the level of the quest. I came back at 18, and buffed up to the max (All scrolls, strider stew, coarse weightstone, Mark of the Wild, Thorns) before starting to kill the village. I kill the last warrior, and 3 coastrunners attack me. I toss a Bronze Bomb to wound them all, put up a target dummy to distract them, cast a renew, and start chopping them down individually. I kill them, and 2 warriors attack me. I kill them, and now Murkdeep with his 2 buddies appear. I’m tired of doing this quest by this point, so I’m just concentrating on staying alive long enough to kill him. I toss my last bronze bomb to damage them all, bring up a target dummy, cast a renew and healing touch, and work on Murkdeep. A few Moonfires and maces to the face later, and Murkdeep dies. I loot him, and take off running to shake pursuit. Booyaka! After that, I decided to go to Ashenvale since I was so close, so I picked up the escort quest of the narcoleptic druid to Maestra’s Post. He’s annoying to have to wake up, but I had done the quest before, so I just hugged the mountains to the east on the way down, and didn’t have to deal with any ambushes on the way down. He helped with fighting beasts too; after they got close enough to hit me, he would attack them. I dropped him off, turned in Delgren’s note for the Tower of Althaxxx quest line, and continued it by picking up a Soul gem from the undead wandering around north of the post. On Lightheaded, they complained about an insanely low drop %, but I picked it up on my third kill. I ran into the Shrine of Aessina first, because I had mistakenly sold off all the Herbalist glove patterns (+5 herbalism gloves) I had picked up before, so I needed at least one to send to my leatherworker, so he could make it and send it to my enchanter for the +5 herbalism enchant, and she’ll send it back to my druid. I love having all the professions!

Updates on characters

10-8-07
This weekend I concentrated on my Alliance account, so I can finish getting all of the characters to at least level 20. That opens up Engineering level 150-225 (165-240 for Gnomes, woot!), as well as 150-225 for whatever other professions the toons may have. My mage (Eng,enchant), priest (tailor, miner), shaman (Eng, LW), rogue (Eng, miner), and warrior (BS, Eng) are at least 20+ right now, and I burned up my well rested bonus on my warlock (Eng, Alch) to get her to level 18.
I need to get to level 20, so I can unlock the 150-225 skills (especially the level to make Frost Oil). My level 24 Warrior has the Snowmaster 9000 schematic, and I already picked one up for cheap on the AH, so once I get the Frost Oil recipe on my alchemist, I will be able to make one Snowmaster and use both of them to make more snowballs. Because my Warrior has the Snowmaster schematic, I’m going to hold off on powerleveling Engineering on him, until I can make a few of the Snowmaster kits and it will still give me a skill point. It’s already yellow when you learn it at 190, so I want to get some benefit out of making it.
This….is the bottleneck on Engineering? Alchemy has a 23 hour cooldown on the higher transmutes, Leatherworking has a 3 day cooldown on Refined Deeprock Salt using a Salt Shaker, and Tailoring has a 4 day cooldown on Mooncloth. I’m not sure if Enchanting has any cooldowns. But why have a freakin’ 24 hour cooldown on Snowballs? They aren’t used in anything EXCEPT the Snowmaster kit. You can have snowball fights with them, but that’s kinda pointless. 24 hours to be able to make something, 1 second to use it. At least the Heavy Leather Ball from leatherworking can be re-used, and you could have a game of Pass with it.
I leveled both my warlock and my paladin from level 15 to level 18 this weekend, doing the Defias chain quests in Westfall so I’ll have all 5 quests for the Deadmines when I finally go to them. My paladin was well stocked with bombs and target dummies, and she used most of them, and got killed at least 5 times, especially by those Defias pillagers/looters, since they group up. My warlock….not so much. I had 4 target dummies, and 13 Big bronze bombs, and I still have most of both. Warlocks and Hunters are great for leveling. I was taking on 2-3 enemies my level or higher, and always winning. I setup a macro for my warlock, because I was tired of having to stretch to hit Ctrl+1 to tell my pet to attack, then hitting the A button to fire off a shadow bolt. So, I borrowed the original macro I got from BRK
#showtooltip
/petattack
/Hunter’s Mark

And changed to:
#showtooltip
/petattack
/Shadow Bolt
So I just hit one button, and my imp and I both channel blasts of magic down upon our enemies! :) I should also make one to cycle through the DOT spells I use, since one is instant cast, and the other one was reduced by talent points to be instant cast as well.
It’s getting so much easier to level characters now. I know where all the quests are, and in what order to link them to maximize effectiveness. I’m no longer charging off to some new area because I have one quest there, I’ll save it until I actually go there, or not bother doing it at all. I’m probably going to do the quests in Bloodmyst Isle (Draenai area) with my warlock (since she’s going to Darnassus to level up Alchemy), just to see them, but I’m not going to bother with my actual Draenai characters, since they need to concentrate on building rep with Darnassus, and also getting their butts over to Westfall to get the 5 quests for the Deadmines. I’m going to have my Warlock skill up at Engineering level 225 by making parachute cloaks for all the other characters, since gnomes have that nice passive +15 to engineering.
