The Shattering hit servers today, to a lot of mixed emotions. New content, yay! Portals in Shattrath and Dalaran gone, boo! I had known they were going to be gone, but theory and practice are two different things.
The portals being gone are something that makes being an altoholic really, REALLY hard. Getting one toon to traipse around the continents for a holiday event can be time-consuming, but imagine trying to do 30 of them. With the portals in Dalaran, if I needed to travel to or around different capitol cities, I'd go to one directly from Dalaran, then hearth back and log out. Do the next toon, repeat. It was a time-saving technique that I had gotten used too, since by the time I was done with the 10th toon, the 1st toon would have their hearth back up.
If you have daily quests that will be used by max level toons, who generally have their hearths set somewhere in Northrend, why oh why would you have those dailies take place in Orgrimmar? The cooking tokens from the Orgrimmar cooking dailies will be used to buy level 450 and UP cooking recipes, which lowbie toons won't be making use of for a long time. So, it's expected for 70-80 toons to come back to Orgrimmar to do those dailies, every day, then get back to where they want to be, which is in Northrend or Deepholme or whatever.
Aaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
Whew, enough venting. I also wanted to recap where I am with some toons. Bloodshrike missed out on Loremaster by only 13 quests in Zul'Drak, and all of Grizzly Hills. I should have kept more in the loop, but I was kinda excited by being able to gear up my newer 80's with the elemental invasion bosses. He also missed out on getting his Shen'dralar rep to exalted, along with Zandalar. I had plenty of librams and Pristine black diamonds, I just had slacked off on getting the BOP Blood of Heroes/Skin of Shadow/Frayed Stitching. I should have just let one day of dailies with my other 80's pass, and concentrated on that rep grind. I turned in about 22 librams in Dire Maul about an hour before the servers were supposed to go down, then headed to Zul'Gurub to try to max out my Zanzibar rep. Got there with about 15 minutes to spare, but the instance portal wouldn't let me in, even though I was in a raid group with another 80. "Instance could not be found" my ass! The instance is right in front of me!
Ah well, C'est la vie. I'm not going to let it worry me, instead, it'll be nice to get those librams out of my guild bank(s).
I figure I might as well do a recap on my servers, since this is a fresh start to the world.

As of 2/6/2010....
I just wanted to jot down what I have at this point in time, compared to my meager achievements of a few months ago. I think I had 1 or 2 titles then, and maybe 5 exalted reputations. Feel free to think to yourself "TL-DR," and move on.
As of now, I have 16 Exalted reps (5 home cities, Netherwing, Sporeggar, Sha'tari Skyguard, Shattered Sun, Scryers, Argent Crusade, Kirin Tor (mainly leveled off cooking and fishing dailies), Sons of Hodir, Horde Expedition, Sunreavers, and the Oracles (finally!)).
11 unique tabards including one from Shadowmoon Valley .
65/100 mounts.
75+ pets.
472/550 Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms, 615/685 Kalimdor, 15/90 in to Hellfire and Back with all the other Outland zones done. Summit of Stormpeaks and Into the Basin are my only completed Northrend zone achievements, but I'm 112/140 in Icecrown.
I'm 2187/3000 on the Seeker achievement, plus 1474 dailies equalling 3661 total quests done.
Merrymaker and Hallowed make 2/8 for the Violet Proto-drake grind.
Titles: I can now call myself Bloodshrike the Ambassador, Chef, Crusader, Merrymaker, Explorer, Hallowed, or Pilgrim. Or affiliate myself with Of Orgrimmar, Sen'jin, Silvermoon, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, and the Shattered Sun.

Out of Phaze
So, Bloodshrike, and ONLY Bloodshrike, will be going for the Loremaster achievement. I'm not going to put myself through the misery of slavishly trying to complete all those quests again on another character. I'll do the rep grind for certain factions if they have recipes that that toon needs for their profession(s), but I'm done with being a perfectionist.
I guess this whole thing kind of spun off from me doing the Icecrown quests. I'm currently about 104/140 on them, and I grouped with a BE rogue for a few of the group quests. One in particular was kind of funny. See, I only really got into Northrend at about level 76. I did all of the Sholazar Basin quests by level 77, then came back to Northrend for the Storm Peaks, and I know I got 80 before finishing the quests there.
When I finally started in Icecrown, I went straight to the Argent Crusade, did the intro quests, then became an Aspirant. I did those quests for 25 days, becoming "Champion of ..." and "Exalted Champion of .." at the same moment, since I was already exalted with all the home cities. It wasn't until about halfway thru Revered that I realized that the OTHER quests in Icecrown probably would help boost my Argent Crusade rep, so I wouldn't only rely on the dailies for the rep grind. Doh!
Needless to say, when I finally hit Exalted with the AC, I had over 180 tokens to spend. The first 50 went for the teleport Tabard, and another 120 went for my clothies to level up in style.
I also spent about 10kg for another teleport, though this one actually helps me kill stuff faster.
So, between the tabard, ring, 3 engineering teleport devices, and my hearthstone....I'm almost a mage!
Anyways, back to the original story. The BE rogue and I were about to kill the dogs and the casters for the Guardians quest, but when he came to join up with me, I couldn't see him. We could both see the monsters, but since we were in different phase stages of quest chains, we couldn't see each other. It was quite interesting to coordinate attacks on the monsters, especially since I'm a suspicious basterd, and don't trust that people are pulling their weight unless I actually see them fighting. But, we got it done with only 2 people, so it was a lot better than trying to solo it. I had tried before, and died twice while only killing one of the mobs. But, since we had also done Basic Chemistry and Coprous the Defiled, that finished my list of group quests that I need, except maybe the Banshee's Revenge. Ahh, I'll be happy to get this zone over with.

Questing in Northrend
9/18/09
From the last post until now, I've changed my mind a little bit. I took a simple travel quest Where in the World is Hemet Nesingwary to the middle of Sholozar Basin, to just meet the legendary Hemet Nesingwary and to do the Ghostfish Daily fishing quest for Dalaran. At least, that was my intention. So, I introduce myself to Hemet AGAIN, even though I've already done bucketloads of his quests in Stranglethorn Vale and Outlands (that dwarf has a memory as bad as my own), and run on down to the River's Heart to catch the elusive Ghostfish.
After I catch the fish, I look around, and I notice a ! over Tamara Wobblesprocket's head that I hadn't seen on the other few times I had done the Ghostfish daily. So, I accepted her Part-Time Hunter, since it seemed like it would be close, and I should be easily able to solo whatever mob I needed to. That led me to the Frenzyheart questline, and then I started doing the Nesingwary questline, since I now had 2 (two) tanks ready to soak up and deal out damage. As long as you keep Hoofing It, you've got a pocket tank with Zepik the Gorloc Hunter. As a hunter, I already had a tank, so this made questing SUPER easy. I got thru 39 out of the 75? quests in Sholozar before I stopped. And, I stopped because I dinged 77, and could learn Cold Weather Flying. :)
So, there is a bonus from spending time past 68 in Outlands, at least on your first toon on the server. I only really spent about 1 level stuck on a ground mount in Northrend, before I could fly again. With only 2.5 levels to go to 80, I'll probably ding 80 before Pallormortis, who is currently 67 and doing Netherstorm quests, will need or want to start to start flying in Northrend, so I'll be able to provide the Bind on Account Book of Cold Weather Flying.

My First Title
9/16/09
Last night, Bloodshrike on Demon Soul got his first title. At Exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive, you can buy the “of the Shattered Sun” title from the NPC in the high tower on Quel’Danas. After probably a month of dailies on the Isle of QD, as well as the Sunfury Attack plans in Netherstorm and the Spectro-graphic disturbances in Nagrand, I finally got to Exalted. And while the Alchemy trinket plans are useless compared to the highest level alchemy trinkets, the necklace I bought (Shattered Sun Pendant of Might) was actually a small upgrade compared to what I had. Couple that with being exalted with scryers, and having it proc because of that, and it becomes really nice (though I haven’t noticed it doing that). I haven’t been finding much on the AH for upgrades at level 76, maybe because people have found that quest rewards are better in Northrend than what drops? Dunno.
Speaking of Northrend, I’m level 76, Honored with the Kirin Tor because of the fishing and cooking dailies, and yet I’ve barely done any quests there. I did all the D.E.H.T.A. Little P.I.T.A. quests, and a few around Warsong Hold, but I haven’t really done much else there. I want to get exalted with whatever factions in Outlands that give me Alchemy/Engineering recipes before really moving on to Northrend.

How many Professions have you gone through?
At level 72, I finally decided to level Bloodshrike the rest of the way from 420ish Alchemy all the way to 450. One of the easiest and cheapest professions to max, I only had to do some Earthsiege and Skyflare transmutes, and badda-boom, I'm 450. Along the way I noticed some very nice bonuses that Alchemists have - Flask of the North, Endless Mana Potion, and Endless Health Potion are 3 potions that an Alchemist can use, and will not be consumed on use. Think about that, people! While the health from the potion isn't much for someone with 10k health already, it's nice to top off after a fight. Same with the mana potion. Before, I would have to switch to Aspect of the Viper after every 5 mobs or so, to regen my 5k mana. Now, I make it a game to see how low I can get my mana before chugging the mana pot. With only a 1 minute cooldown, I literally would never have to switch to AotV again while questing.
And with a proper macro, it can be made to be easily used.

/cast [modifier:alt] Endless Mana Potion
/cast [modifier:ctrl] Endless Healing Potion
Demon Soul is my first server, and as such, I made some mistakes or choices that I rethought with my other 2 servers. On Daggerspine, I have a warlock as my alchemist, and on Darrowmere, my priest is my alchemist/inscriptionist. But, it's nice to know that it's not a wasted profession slot that one of my other toons could have done for me.
I even had my Rogue on Demon Soul going for Weaponsmithing for a while, before I made him into a miner, and then when my DK blew past him in Mining/Skinning, had him take up Skinning for when the DK would drop Skinning for Engineering at level 60.
Anyone else have any stories about changing professions midgame?

Just having fun with the game
Hey all, I haven't fallen off the face of the planet. I tend to write posts when I have nothing to do at work, and since I've been busy, I haven't been writing.
But, since WoW is down for urgent maintenance, it was time to try to remember my password to Blogger, since I've gotten a new computer and the password wasn't saved. :)
I could write them at home, but.....I'm having too much fun with Burning Crusade content!
(Dude, BC came out like 2 years ago, what's so special about it?)
Well, I'm just getting into playing those areas. I've always been one to play a game to explore all areas of it, not just get to the end. I put 300 hours on Final Fantasy 7,8, and X each, and by the time I beat X, my levels were so high from doing the monster arena over and over, it would have been a 1-hit kill except there was a damage cap of 99,999.
(All areas of the game, that means character classes and professions, right?)
Yup, I'm on 3 servers, 2 Horde, 1 Alliance. Demon Soul is my only one with a Death Knight, but all the other classes are represented at least once on each of the servers.
(All Professions? What about dropped recipes for those professions?)
Each server has all professions covered, and I've bought/found most of the recipes I could. I'm not stressing on dungeon drop BOP recipes, as I don't like tying myself down to a toon for that long of a time. I like being able to hop around. Once I get high enough to solo the dungeons, maybe I'll go for the recipes then.
So, playing 30 toons at once tends to slow your leveling rate way down. Not to mention the time spent in the AH, looking for recipes that I want for the future.
But, I came to the realization that I.....pretty much got them all. I haven't learned a lot of the recipes, but I've collected most of the high level recipes for each profession, on each server, and am just waiting to get to the level caps to be able to powerlevel to the next cap of the profession. For example, Bullkathos finally hit level 50, and was able to advance to 375 blacksmithing. I leveled him to 372, and was able to learn all these recipes. 2-4k gold spent in a few minutes, and probably would have been worth 20k gold a few years ago.
Fel-Edged Battleaxe
Runic Hammer
Hammer of Righteous Might
Dirge
Khorium Champion
Steelgrip Gauntlets
Blessed Bracers
Felfury Gauntlets
Felsteel Reaper
Eternium Runed Blade
Fel Hardened Maul
Storm Helm
Oathkeeper's Helm
Black Felsteel Bracers
These are the recipes I've collected over the years, and after Bloodshrike stepped onto the shores of Northrend, I've learned they're useless. Same with all the level 300 plans that Burning Crusade greens put to shame. I kinda wish they'd revamp them so they'd have slightly better stats then the low level greens you get when you first get into Hellfire. They did modify some existing recipes, like the Radiant set, to give it Hit rating and resilience, instead of whatever idiotic stats that it had before. Here's hoping.
But, on the plus side, I am enjoying how well quests are strung together in Outlands. No more go here, kill these mobs, come back to the quest giver, get given a quest for a zone across the ocean, and get a quest to come back to the original mobs for a different thing that they can drop! Instead, if you collect all the quests in a zone, you will only get a few travel quests, and those are usually just to introduce you to the next zone.
I've also decided to not attack players unless they're my level or above. A hunter combat engineer is just too overpowered for most players I come across, who usually have a few thousand health less then me, even if they're only 3 levels below.
I was killing ogres in the Burning Blade ruins in northern Nagrand, when I saw a level 68 warrior (I was 70, I believe). I'm at about 10k health, he's at maybe 7k. I had picked up the daily PvP quest to kill 10 enemy players in Halaa, and thought that this would be a start on that total. Well, you don't get credit unless the kill is in Halaa, I found out. But, I found out that I can utterly annihilate any player around my level. Between my gnomish lightning generator bolts, the rockets from my gloves, and my bullets, he was downed quickly.
I continued killing ogres, and he respawned, and must have asked for help, because the next thing I knew I was being attacked by him, with a level 64 boomkin helping/healing him. I went down after a fight, almost taking the druid with me.
I ran back up from the Spirit Healer, and after rezzing and flying off to heal and buff up a bit, I came back. My gorilladin took on the warrior, with occasional Concussive shots and Immolation traps help from me, while I kept up Serpent Sting on the druid and kept bringing down his health thru his constant self-healing. Booya! 2 down. After that, I got almost 1-shotted by a level 80 hunter that they asked for help. :)

Holla!!!! Holler? Hola…. Halaa!
7/7/09
Well, I only ended up with Bonescourge and Pallormortis getting the Spirit of Summer pet on Demon Soul, and I think Clockwrkmage got it on Daggerspine. But, I didn’t care too much about the pet, I appreciated the 2 bubbles of EZ XP per character, per day.
So, once the Fire Festival ended on Sunday morning (4 am server time), I decided it was time to start leveling some professions. Annihilus on Darrowmere needed to level her JC skillz to 225, Thrillkiller on Demon Soul needed to get to 375 engineering, and Doomslinger my former hunter twink was in need of 225 Inscription and Engineering.
Annihilus didn’t take too long to level, and I loved making the mithril settings, as I was able to go from 150-190 JC with just one recipe.
Thrillkiller, on the other hand….. It takes me a while to level each stage of engineering. The guides that are on the interwebs are designed for people who want to level up their professions as fast and cheaply as possible. They usually don’t have dropped recipes included in them, and really, nobody will ever be rich or even break even using just trainer bought recipes. Looking back on it though….I didn’t really make anything special to sell, it just took me a while to get all the mats together. I know I made a bunch of Elemental Blasting Powder, then Fel Iron Bombs until 330+. Then I switched to Adamantite Frames, and 5 Adamantite Scopes, and got to 350 with a Cogspinner Goggles of the Bandit (31 Agility, 46 Stamina, 62 AP). After that, it was smooth sailing to 375, making Volatile Blasting Triggers, with 1 point coming from the Gnomish Poultryizer.
I didn’t make the Nigh-Invulnerability Belt yet, as Khorium Bars/Ore couldn’t be found on my Auction house, and I hate asking in trade for items, since buyers know they have you over a barrel at that point. When they have metal in the AH, they paid a deposit for that, so they want to sell it. When in trade, they’ll jack up the price or simply refuse to talk to you because your initial offer didn’t match some price they had in their head, and they punish you for not being able to read their minds. I’m somewhat used to haggling, or at least offering low, being countered high, and usually settling in the middle. With some WoW players, you only have one shot to give them a price, and if you offer low, they laugh at you and /ignore you. Idiots…..
So, because of the need for Khorium Power Cores, Bloodshrike went on a field trip! I had intended to wait to adventure in Outlands until the new patch, when I’d be able to get my flying training at 60, training and mount prices would be reduced, and I could finally get mounts for all my level 20+’s on Darrowmere. But, needs must, I suppose.
So, Bloodshrike set off from Falcon Watch, ran thru Zangarmarsh (getting the FP on the way), thru Blades Edge Mountains (getting the FP from Mok’Nathal Village), and on to Area 52 in Netherstorm. I was freaking on the way, especially in Blade’s Edge, since I was running thru a cave with a bunch of higher level spiders, and I was expecting to be automatically dismounted or knocked off by a spider at any second. I’m used to ghost-running, or even corpse-hopping exploring, but being able to explore high level areas without getting killed repeatedly is still a new one to me. Of course, having 7.5k health at level 63 does help a lot. :)
I left Bloodhrike at Area 52 for a day, checking in occasionally to what I could buy from Qiff. I got 1 Khorium Power Core for 4.8 gold, a few Fel Iron Bolts for 60 silver each, a few Adamantite Frames, and some smoke flares just because.
After a while, I realized I was only a half bubble away from leveling to 64, so I decided to go out and explore, and maybe pick up some Alchemy recipes for Bloodshrike. I also realized that I could get the Gnomish Toshley’s Station transporter recipe, since I had 450 engineering, and you only need 350 to learn it. After I picked it up from Smiles O’Byron, I headed west to the other Horde town, Thunderlord Stronghold. Got the flightpoint there, and flew back to Zangarmarsh. I picked up the alchemy recipes Recipe: Elixir of Major Frost Power and Recipe: Sneaking Potion from Seer Janidi, then decided to go get the fp for Nagrand. After looking at ProfessionsBook, it showed that a vendor in Halaa sold a couple of alchemy recipes as well, so I headed over.
Along the way, I got waylaid by a quest. The quest giver for the Cenarion expedition had a simple exploring quest, which got compounded by me running into Fahssn on the way over. So, I got sucked into grinding the Bog Lords and picking up spore sacs, but it was actually pretty fun! With the burst damage from Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket and Gnomish Lightning Generator, using each one every 30 seconds really, really speeds up grinding those bog lords. I got to almost friendly with the Sporeggar, then decided it was time to call it a night, and just made a run to Garadar in Nagrand. That’s some really beautiful scenery to run through! The funny part is, even though I’m 64, and the monsters are higher than me, I have way more health than them, and me and my gorilla didn’t have a problem dealing with a few pesky 67’s that attacked.
The Diplomat
6/16/09
Continuing with my plan to escape the AH, and get out to leveling, Bloodshrike (Demon Soul) dinged exalted with Orgrimmar and Undercity, and maybe Thunder Bluff as well. I can't remember, but I know I got to 1000 achievement points, and the Armory is only showing 960 right now. With Tsuris on Daggerspine, I purchased all the low level SW and Darnassus mounts when I hit Exalted with those cities, but I'm going to hold off on that for right now, until the patch hits. Why?
With the new patch, mounts and training will be SO much cheaper.
Apprentice Riding (Skill 75)
60% land mount speed
Requires level 20
Cost: 4 gold
Mount cost: 1 gold
Mail will be sent to players at level 20 guiding them to the riding trainer
Journeyman Riding (Skill 150)
100% land mount speed
Requires level 40
Cost: 50 gold
Mount cost: 10 gold
Mail will be sent to players at level 40 guiding them back to the riding trainer
Expert Riding (Skill 225)
150% flying mount speed; 60% land mount speed
Requires level 60
Cost: 600 gold (faction discounts now apply)
Mount Cost: 50 gold
Can now be learned in Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde)
Artisan Riding (Skill 300)
280% flying mount speed; 100% land mount speed
Requires level 70
Cost: 5,000 gold (faction discounts now apply)
Mount Cost: 100 gold
You might as well show them off, too. Here's a handy little macro I just spotted on Wowmacros.com, that selects an appropriate mount for your location.
/run if IsMounted()then return end local t if GetRealZoneText()=="Dalaran"and GetSubZoneText()~="Krasus' Landing"or GetZoneText()=="Wintergrasp"or not IsFlyableArea()then t={1,12,16}else t={6,7,15}end CallCompanion("MOUNT",t[random(#t)])
/dismount
Here's another one of their macros I've been using for a while, to randomly select a pet companion.
/run CallCompanion("CRITTER", random(GetNumCompanions("CRITTER")))
I've also started Bullkathos on farming rep with the Timbermaw, as they have recipes for Blacksmithing that he wants. It doesn't hurt that he's actually in the level range for grinding on them, since I've been doing gray and green quests recently, trying to get Exalted with Undercity with him too. I think I'll try for Exalted with the Timbermaw, so I can add to my trinket collection, and have a pocket healer Furlbog. I'm going for Revered anyway, as the belt recipe is available to a Honored, and the boots at Revered.
Of course, there's no recipes for Engineering. As usual.

To make inordinate amounts of gold or not to make inordinate amounts of gold, that is the question;
2/13/09
Bloodshrike1 hit 61 last night, still in Azeroth. I’m trying to get thru the quests in my log, even though a lot of them are grey, just because I’m stubborn. I think I’ve gotten all the Zul’Farakk quests for Tanaris assembled, as well as the Sunken Temple quests (since there’s a Hunter quest that’s in ST). Now I have to see if I’ll be able to solo them at 61, with my AOE gorilla keeping all the aggro on him.
I’ve definitely slacked off on my gold frenzy, letting a couple of days lapse between logins of my AH toons. It just takes too much time out of my day to try and keep up, leaving very little time for actual questing. I can log in at 5 pm, and still be posting stuff at 7 or 8 pm. There’s just a lot of work involved in posting. With Scribes, you open up all your mail, accept the 100+ gold from the glyphs that sold (my usual average), make additional glyphs to get you back up to 3-4 of each minor glyph that they know makes a profit, and then go to the AH. Click on each glyph to see what other people are selling them for, then undercut them. Then, select Trade Goods and type Ink or Pigm, to see if I can pick up any that are low priced. Since I’m in Trade goods anyway, I usually select Jewelcrafting/Parts/Devices/Explosives to see if there’s any bargains. If the Scribe is the only one who’s going to log in on that server that day, I’ll usually check recipes for BS/Engineering/Tailoring/Enchanting to see if AckisRecipeList sees anything that my toons can learn.
But, I am making about 5k gold per month with Demon Soul AND Daggerspine, since they both have Enchanters/Blacksmiths that are 300, and can provide Arcanite Rods and high level enchants for the AH. And on my Horde accounts, they usually have the Ally cooking recipes to sell on the AH, providing 10-15 gold each. Multiply that by 5-12 per day, every day, and it comes up to a lot of gold. Demon Soul now has over 56k (even after buying my level 60 land mount and training for Bloodshrike), Daggerspine has about 49k, and Darrowmere is probably around 21k.

Whew, Mastery of professions is expensive! I finally got around to leveling Bloodshrike on Demon Soul in his professions, since he’s 55. Alchemy probably took 200 gold to powerlevel, and it would have been higher, but I had a ton of herbs saved up from Morticide camping the Darkmoon Faire for herbs and motes. I haven’t picked Potion or Transmute as a specialty yet, and I haven’t researched where/when to do that. You probably have to be level 60 or something, but I’m an impatient little sod, and want to powerlevel professions as soon as I can.
Bloodshrike’s Engineering is probably around 330 right now. I’m torn between making Arcanite Dragonlings, since I had Bloodshrike learn it, and it turned yellow at around 320 engineering, or making Health Potion Injectors, since he made a ton of Super Health Potions while leveling up Alchemy. Or, I could make Crashin’ Thrashin’ Robots, since I learned that at 325, and those should sell for a good price. Aaaaugh, too many choices!
Arcanite Dragonlings are super expensive to make. 1 Mithril Mechanical Dragonling, 8 Delicate Arcanite transformers, 6 Thorium Widgets, 10 Enchanted Thorium Bars, 6 Enchanted Leather….. I could probably sell one for 500-600 gold, and come out about even on mats. Since I’m making 9 of them for my toons, it’s cost efficient for me to make them first, and worry about selling them later. If I do sell enough of them, it won’t be a problem to come back and make more of them for myself.
Tsuris is now level 34 1/2, waiting for me to come back and finally get him to level 35, and be able to finally powerlevel my first toon past 225 leatherworking. I think I’ll probably go Dragonscale LW, since he’s Enhancement spec, and I like doing DPS rather than healing.

The Death of a Twink
11/26/08

Bloodshrike got to level 53 last night, finishing up all the yellow quests I had in my quest log for Hinterlands. Actually, it was probably about 5 quests that got knocked out in one area (Jintha’Alor), which is very nice, as I hate having to do a quest in an area, only to find out that I have to come back there to kill a group of monsters that were RIGHT NEXT to the ones I went there for originally. The Harpy quests in NW Barrens comes to mind, as you have to travel up there THREE different times in the quest chain to get to the end quest.
But in Jintha’Alor, I just ran through, killing X number of mobs, collecting 10 of the cauldrons, finding the Huntsman’s Skull and Bones in the sludge pit and wolf den, freeing Elder Runetusk, killing the High Priestess Hexx (she didn’t stand a chance against my pet and my dragonling, even though she polymorphed me), and finally hearthing back to the village to turn them all in. There’s still a few green quests that I could do, but I’m not sure where to go after this. Maybe Felwood in Durotar, I think Alchemists can get recipes by grinding Timbermaw rep.
Unfortunately, there’s no engineering recipes they give, which also goes for Thorium Brotherhood rep, so I probably won’t be grind rep for them. I think Thorium Brotherhood is only for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Enchanting…..and maybe Alchemy? I checked--alchemists can transmute 1 Heart of Fire into 3 Elemental Fire with Friendly Rep. Wow, totally not worth it.
It looks like Alchemists can get Transmute: Earth to Water at Friendly status to Timbermaw, so maybe he’ll do that. Alchemists and Engineers are screwed on Cenarion Circle rep as well (Recipes for BS, Ench, LW, Tailor)……Geez, what gives!
So about that Death of a Twink headline – Yup, one of my twinks is going bye-bye. I thought that Blizzard had said that in order to make a Death Knight, you wouldn’t have to change over one of your existing characters, or delete any. I figured wrong. You still can only make 10 toons per account, so I’m going to have to delete Sansetsukon off of Demon Soul if I want to try out a Death Knight. Tauren Hunters…..heck, Tauren anything just aren’t that fun to me. I like my Tauren Warrior Bullkathos, but on Demon Soul, I also have a Tauren Shaman and Druid, as well as the twink hunter. There’s not really enough character design implemented to make them look very different from each other, which is something that you can do with Blood Elves. All …..6 of the BE on Darrowmere look totally different from one another, which is very cool. They also don’t have that hunchback look that Undead, Tauren, Orcs, and Trolls tend to have. BE’s are the only ones that stand up straight in the Horde Faction.
Anyways, Sansetsukon needs to be axed. I think I only played him in Battlegrounds once, to get the Olympic Tabard, so it’s no big loss. I spent a hundred or so gold on his bank slots, but with 33k gold on Demon Soul, I think I can afford it.
I’ll give it until I hit 55 with Bloodshrike, and see if they will magically open up another slot then.

Getting over the hump of leveling
11/24/08
Wahoo! Bloodshrike, my first toon, is now level 51 and a half! I just started playing him again this weekend, and gained about 3 or so levels, and a lot of it was from finishing up green quests in the Badlands. Why was a level 48+ questing in the Badlands? Well, I wanted to do the Uldaman Reagent run to get the Restorative Potion recipe, so I accepted the other quests while I was there.
Running around Uldaman as a level 50 is fun! I ran clockwise around the area before the instance, and even went into the instance, but decided not to push my luck. I got the Adventurers Pith Helmet as one of my drops, which will serve Kukoshakaku or Morticide very nicely once they level up.
After that, I moseyed over to Burning Steppes (I think, whatever zone is west of Badlands) and did the quests for the Outhouse. I even ran up to the tunnel to Loch Modan, and found out that a Large Seaforium Charge will pick the lock to the tunnel. I’m not sure if a small one will do it, but you’d better have 2 of whatever you got, because the door shuts behind you pretty quickly. Luckily, I did have 2 Large Sea charges, so I was able to get out of there. After that, I went over to Un’Goro Crater, and was doing the Sticky Stuff quest, along with all the rest of the quests I picked up at the Marshal’s Refuge. The only one I got completed was the Sticky Stuff quest, along with getting 20 Un’Goro soil to turn in at Thunder Bluff. I’ll come back to it after I finish the Hinterlands.
Next, I went to the Hinterlands, stopping first in Arathi to do the level 225 First Aid quest. Easy enough, but 60 Mageweave wasn’t enough to get me up to Runecloth bandages, so I had to have Bullkathos send me another 40. Then, he had to send me more runecloth, since the 60 I brought didn’t get me up to level 300. Once that was done, I flew over to the Hinterlands. I accepted all the quests in the village, and had to drop some of the Un’Goro quests to get all of them, but they were yellow to red, so I’ll be able to see them even without low level quest tracking turned on. Snapjaws, Mon!, Gammerita, Mon!, Lard’s Lunch, and the Pupellyverberos port quest from Booty Bay are all on the same stretch of beach in the Hinterlands.

Judge not, lest you be judged........ screw dat, I'm a Judging fool.
11/10/08
Ding! I got a few characters out leveling this weekend, Bloodshrike the original, going from 45 to 47 in a few hours, making him my highest toon ever. Level 50 and 300-375 Engineering and Alchemy are so close I can smell them! I had fun playing him, running some quests in STV to get them out of my quest log. The Stranglethorn hunting quests were fun, I’d gather a bunch of raptors together before setting off a Dense dynamite and a Explosive trap, bringing 6 raptors or so to near death almost instantly. It’s funny, I usually avoid STV while leveling, because there’s usually so much ganking going on there that it’s not fun for me. However, as a level 47, nobody bothered me.
I also got my newest Paladin (Misericorde) out leveling, going from level 22 to 24 just by running from Splintertree Post in Ashenvale to the Zoram Strand, and completing a few quests along the way like The Sacred Flame quest, along with Shadumbra and Ursangous, and the Wrathtail heads along with the escort quest at Zoram Strand. I also went over to Black Fathom Deeps to pick up the Corrupted Kor Gem for my The Blood-Tempered Ranseur , even though I had picked up a better axe from Shadowfang keep when I had someone run me through it to get the the Crate of Bloodforged Ingots.
I haven’t played my paladins since before the patch broke, so this was my first time playing after the patch. I gotta say, I like it! No need to charge seals to get the judgements you want to apply, you just have to have A seal running, and you can judge away every time the cooldown cycles. The way it was before, I’d power up the seal that would weaken enemies toward Holy when they were judged, judge them, and switch to the Seal that gave extra Holy damage. Judgement of Light (JoL) rocks, btw! I’m barely using any mana, since my seals are staying up for 2 minutes, and the only mana output is my judgements every 10 seconds of so. On top of that, I’m always staying at full life easily, since JoL has a chance to proc healing on you too. At level 23, I was able to take down Shadumbra (lvl 28) by myself, with only one use of Solid dynamite and Target Dummy. I could have probably done it without, too, but you might as well use all the resources at your disposal. :)
I got my first HK, too. As I was looking for the Warsong Outrider to the east of Splintertree, I ran into a level 26 gnome mage and level 31 gnome rogue coming up the road. I figured they were about to gank me, so I hit back first. I started judging the mage, while letting off Consecration and a Solid Dynamite, and was able to take out the mage and get the rogue to half health before getting killed. They camped my body, and I wasn’t able to get any more kills off them, while they killed me about 2 more times. But, since I just hit 24, I’ll be equipping my Shining Silver Breastplate with a 100 health enchant, so that’ll give me a lot more health and armor.

Blood's adventures in Tanaris
9/12/08
Bloodshrike met up with a level 43 Troll Priest, slaughtered all the pirates in the camp, killed Andre Firebeard, and picked up Stoley’s Shipment, all pretty much at 0 mana. I burned thru my mana way too fast, but luckily, due to engineering, autoshot, and the priests healing skills, I was able to continue killing everything that needed it. After we finished, we mounted up and rode out, and I stopped along the way to burn down a level 46 druid, just to see if I could. I could, and did, so we continued on to Steamwheedle Port to turn in the quests.
After that, the priest and I parted ways, and I went south to kill more Wastewanders, and to try and locate Caliph Scorpidsting. That was pretty easy, even though I got annihilated by a level 44 mage and level 49 Paladin, probably in retribution for killing the druid.
After that I headed over to the insect Centipaar area, to try and get 5 Centipaar parts. At this point, I was level 45, and Arikara was level 38. I was able to handle the level 47 and 48 wasps without too much of a problem, but the level 50 beetle ones kicked my butt every time I tried them. I think they had those miniscule little minions with them, so they’d swarm me, and I couldn’t kill them and a mob 5 levels above me fast enough to make it thru the fight.
I finally went to the east side of the area, where it was mainly just wasps and level 48 workers, and I was able to finish it. I didn’t want to run all the way back to Gadgetzan, so I decided to jump into Un’Goro to get the flight point, and continue on to Sithilus. I rode north to the furthest point where you could run off the cliff edge, and ran & jumped off. I triggered my parachute cloak and came in for a safe landing, but aggro’d a level 49 baby Pterosaur. I was tired of running from fights, so I decided to try to take him down. Surprisingly, I was able to do it!
From there, I continued northwest around the slopes of Un’goro, hugging the wall to avoid aggro. I grabbed the flightpoint from the Marshal’s area, and continued on to Sithilus. When I first came into the zone, I noticed a leatherworking vendor to the left, so I stopped off and bought the Heavy Scorpid Bracer recipe (255) for Kukoshakaku (which, incidentally, is NOT allowed in an Leatherworking bag), then continued on to grab the flightpoint and some more recipes from Kania for Bullkathos to sell . I flew back to Gadgetzan, turned in the quest, and logged out at 45 and a half with Arikara at 39.

Bloodshrike's day with the pirates
9/9/08
Bloodshrike on Demon Soul actually got out and did some questing, instead of being a good little Neutral Auction House mule. Being inspired by my friend Francois, who is currently leveling his level 44 hunter with his level 30 lion, I decided to take Arikara out and do some leveling by Steamwheedle Port. Those pirates don’t like a big red pet menacing them, while being shot full of holes. Since Arikara was level 34 when I started killing pirates, he wasn’t able to hold aggro very well.

The Third Auctioneer
8/20/08
Wow, I wasted a bunch of time yesterday. I had added the name of the toon that jacked my stuff to my Ally alt, so I could track if he was still camping the neutral AH in Booty Bay. Well, Jijucali, a level 6 Night Elf Priest, was still online and in Booty Bay when I logged on. I didn’t feel like losing anymore items, so I figured I’d ask Francois to take his level 37 troll Hunter over there, and see if he could bring some “pointed” arguments to leave my stuff alone. He gets over there, and /targets Jiju. According to the “See target of target” UI, he was targeting some auctioneer I had never heard of. I was used to Auctioneer O’Reely by the mailbox/bank/Gbank, and Auctioneer Graves over by the Engineering supplies vendor, but I wasn’t aware there was a 3rd one. Well, there is! As you go down the ramp towards Old Man Heming (fishing supplies vendor), turn left, and go into the building. There’s an auctioneer, with about 3 Booty Bay guards surrounding him. Jijucali was /sleeping behind him, in a little hollow created by a bookshelf on the right, and a bunch of boxes to the left. In that position, you are so out of sight, your name actually doesn’t show up in the room. It actually projects thru the wall, and shows up outside the building. Not all races can get into that position though. The troll hunter was too tall, and couldn’t walk down into the hollow, but I had no problem with my human paladin alt.
So, I actually have to thank Jiju for teaching me something. It cost me a 20 stack of Truesilver Bars, 10 Essences of Fire, and 1 or maybe 2 Large Seaforium Charge recipes (the same thing had happened to me a while back while transferring stuff, and it may have been Jiju). Bonero /bowed to him for showing me the hiding spot, then told his pet to stay, ran and jumped off the dock, and told his pet to attack. Apparently he wasn’t far enough out that the guards couldn’t get to him, so he got slaughtered. But, Jiju was dead, and stayed dead for a while.
I didn’t want to start transferring yet, fearing he would come back and make my transfer complicated, so Francois took the hunter up to Grom’Grol, and went over to the engineering supplies vendor to the south of the Mosh’Ogg Ogre mound. He picked up the Mechanical Dragonling and Deadly Scope schematics, then flew back down to BB and started some engineering powerleveling. Bonero had gotten to 240 before coming over to BB, so he was able to train the Sniper Scope recipe. He made about 10, before realizing that he wanted to make Dense Blasting Powder at 250-260, since that’s the only stretch where you actually get points for making it. He made about 50+ of them, since it goes green at around 55, to finally get to 260 engineering.
After that I checked to see if Jiju had popped up again. He had, so Francois killed him again, then started my transferring. I’m 99% sure he’s a bot, because a real player would probably pop up again soon after I killed them. Not too mention, he snapped up my auctions within seconds of posting them, and I had my other computer ready to hit refresh with the name of the item typed out already. Some script kiddy or gold farmer running a bot designed to scan the neutral AH for low or ridiculously low bargains, then buying them hyperquickly. Oh well, live and learn, and now I know the best place to bring my toons for transferring, so I consider it money well spent.
I brought over about 6 sets of Ally cooking recipes for his AH alt to sell at 10-12 gold, so we’ll see how that goes. He’s currently at about 1800 gold, with another 400 on my Ally account that I could change into Void Crystals and bring over, so that’s a nice little nest egg for him to have.
Finally, I was able to play MY characters. I decided to run Bloodshrike (Darrowmere Belf Hunter) up to Darkshore to get my Ghostsaber. No problems, didn’t see a single soul out adventuring. After making laps around the main valley, and collecting 7 cat statues, one finally spawned a level 19 Ghost Saber. I had already tossed down a freezing trap before opening the statue, so I quickly abandoned my trusty level 19 Dragonhawk, and set about taming my new friend. I got him, hearthed back to Thunder Bluff, renamed him DarkGhostnss, and logged out.

Shut up before I crush you with my wallet!

3/5/08
I played Bloodshrike again last night! This is some kind of a record for him, being taken out more than once in a month. I saw I had the Dawnrunner’s cargo, and the Spy’s report from the grave by the Hermit on Witch Hill, so I flew back to Dustwallow to turn them in. Since I was there, I decided to do the travel quest to Tabetha’s farm, and kill Deadmire. A level 40 horde warrior just killed Deadmire, so I wasted some time by zapping crocolisks and killing spiders/windserpents for the guy in Tabetha’s cabin. After Deadmire respawned, I took him down, then did the travel quest to Beazil’s Wreck. Those 2 quests are easy, and kinda fun. That leads to a travel quest to Rustsprocket, the new neutral town in Dustwallow, so I went there to turn it in, and get the flight point.
I also came up with a new macro last night. I know you can’t switch out trinkets while you’re in combat, but you can do it right before combat, if you’re quick enough.
#showtooltip
/cast Mechanical Dragonling (just add in Mithril or Arcanite, if that’s what you have equipped)
/stopcasting
/cast Gnomish Battle Chicken
/stopcasting
/equip Gnomish Death Ray
I don’t know if I need to have /stopcasting, but the macro does work. You call out 2 attack pets, and have the Death Ray starting its 30 second equip cooldown before you even get into battle. If you want to, you can even have it equip 2 new trinkets if you can set it up for the specific slots, but this is a pretty easy macro. I like having the chicken on my second trinket slot, since it only has a 20 minute cooldown, so any new trinket you right click to equip will go into your first trinket slot, and not interfere with the chicken.
(Edit 11/14/08) - The macro won't work anymore, since a later patch changed it so you could only have ONE mechanical trinket attack pet out at a time. I imagine that applies to the Goblin Bomb Dispenser as well.
Funnily enough, my blacksmiths are now my toons with the biggest wallets. Usually blacksmiths can’t find customers for the items they sell, since you can usually find a lot better as green drops from monsters. But, making Arcanite rods/Shining Silver Breastplates/Green Iron Hauberks will give you a lot of cash, pretty quickly. I now have about 1300 gold on my level 41 Tauren Warrior blacksmith Bullkathos, and I just got about 1200 gold on my level 24 Dwarf Warrior Blacksmith Panzergishi. I usually check to see what available recipes there are for Panzer when I log on, then I check to see what the epic and Blue recipes are going for. Well, I found an epic recipe (Khorium Longsword I think) for 100-150 gold, and when I looked at Auctioneer, I saw it usually went for about 700-800 gold. So, I bought it, and put it back on the AH for 600-700 gold. I logged in last night to see Panzer’s gold go from about 589 gold to about 1200 gold. That’s the biggest sale I’ve ever had!!! I’m used to getting about 80 gold for each Arcanite Rod, but that was an incredible rush to see my gold double overnight. Granted, I had paid 150 gold for it, but I still made about 400 gold profit on it.

A Plethora of updates
1/8/08
Ryoushigishi hit level 30!! I can now get the specialization quest for gnomish engineering, and go to Booty Bay to talk to the trainer there. Only 5 character levels before I can increase my engineering max level to 300. I did this last level in the Wetlands, killing raptors and Red Whelplings for their hides, and hoping for Red Whelp scales to drop. I also did Dark Iron War in Bael Modan, which involves killing about 20-25 lvl 29 Dark Iron Dwarves. Pretty easy with a lvl 29 Hunter, and I discovered a friendly vendor Dark Iron Entrepreneur in the upper left building, where I found the last 3 Dark Iron Demolitionists hiding out.
After that, it was time to check auctions. Daggerspine must have a limited amount of Blacksmiths, because my Silver Rods and Golden Rods will sell for 2-3 gold and 4-6 gold, respectively. My Blacksmith warrior Panzergishi currently has about 250 gold, and he’s only level 24. Though, as usual, it’s hard as heckfire to sell any armor or weapons that are crafted, unless it’s the Shining Silver Breastplate or Green Iron Hauberk.
I did decide to drop Blacksmithing on Thrillkiller, over on my Horde server. He’s my highest miner, and I’d be kicking myself every time I passed metal veins that I could be picking up. Bullkathos will be fine being my only blacksmith, since they can respec for a measly 100g a pop. That’s nothing compared with the arduous and expensive process that leveling blacksmithing takes. I know I’m wasting all the 1-225 recipes I picked up, but like when I dumped Leatherworking and Skinning on Bullkathos, it was something that had to be done.
At least my Ally account was planned out properly, I only dumped level 125 leatherworking on Aosdanasaoi when I became convinced that Engineering for all characters was the way to go. It still is, in my opinion. The armor/weapons you can make for yourself can easily be duplicated by stuff you buy off the Auction House instead, but the sheer joy of blasting 4-6 enemies at once with about 350 damage for a total of 1400 to 2100 damage, then dumping most of that aggro with a nicely timed Target Dummy…..it’s fun squared.
I also got rid of my n00b hunter weapons on Bloodshrike. I had a sword and axe that had a total of about 10 stamina and 5 agility, with Fiery on both of them, so I replaced them with a 2-handed sword with 12 stamina and agility, and had Banesidhe put +3 intellect on it. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing, and I only have melee and spirit enchants to put on at this point, since I haven’t gotten any kind of faction recipes.

Who dropped the Maytag in Gnomeregan?

Happy New Year! I turned 30 on Friday, so I spent the weekend enjoying my presents. I got a XBOX 360, Halo 3, Lost Planet, and James Bond Volume 4 movie pack. Not a bad haul. I was also off on vacation during this first week of 2008, so I was able to make money on the AH (of course), as well as level a few characters. My BE paladin Clockworknyt was able to solo Shadowfang Keep as far as the stables at level 26, so she could pick up the last item for her polearm quest. This prompted me to start leveling my Human paladin, and she ended up soloing it at lvl 29. Now I have to do a PUG for Deadmines, or have a guildie run me through, since the paladin hasn’t done that instance at all.
Thrillkiller still hasn’t been able to sell the Barbaric Iron recipes on the Neutral AH, even though my price has dropped. I started at 25-50 gold, and now it’s down to 10-20 gold. If I was a Ally blacksmith, I’d jump at the chance for Horde recipes. They’re about the only items that use Sharp Tooth's as a mat, because nobody seems to want to use Rage Potions since it puts a cooldown on Healing Potions.
Ryoushigishi is now level 29 as well, making my Ally account mostly 25-30’s. They’re fast approaching the level of my Horde account, and have about the same amount of gold. Alliance seems to buy everything on the AH, as long as you know what you’re doing. I think if I make another account, I’d just make my money from mining and skinning, and avoid the hassle of rebreaking enchanting mats and constantly posting them. It’s lucrative, but time-consuming. I’d only do it for the Vision dust/Lesser Nether Essence/Small Radiant Shard level mats or higher.
I just discovered that Shadoweave items are not listed as recipes from your regular tailoring trainers. They have their own trainers, which are Josephine Lister in the Magic Quarter of Undercity, and some trainer in the Slaughtered Lamb of Stormwind. Makes sense to place them near the Warlock trainers, since the items give + Shadow damage, but why not have the regular trainers list the recipes, especially since you can now learn up to 300 tailoring in the capitol cities? I made a couple of the gloves, and put them on the AH. I think there’s a good chance that they’ll sell, since both warlocks and Shadow Priests can use them.
I had Bloodshrike go to Booty Bay and teleport over to Gnomeregan. There’s only one Horde quest that he could do, but I wanted to take a look. I was able to do the neutral Blastmaster quest, where you help the Alliance gnome inspect the tunnels, then fight off waves of troggs. Annoying, but would probably be doable at level 30 for my other toons. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned from BRK’s blog on how to play hunters. I remember when I first started, and had never done an instance before, and wandered into Ragefire Chasm by mistake. I got slaughtered, and vowed to come back at a higher level. I got a PUG for it (I think) and cleared it, but I also came back at level 22 confident that I’d be able to take them down. They’re only level 13 Elites, right rite? I got slaughtered by the troggs again. In comparison, my level 26 Paladin was able to get to the stables in SFK, and would probably be able to go all the way through the instance if I had enough time, and those are level 20-22 Elites, attacking in groups quite often.
Anyways, back to Bloodshrike. I’m wandering around Gnomer, trying to figure it out, and I find the Alliance rest station in the middle of it. They get a mailbox, vendors to sell off junk, and …. a washing machine to do laundry? The Sparkle-o-matic isn’t really worth doing. I washed about 20 Grime encrusted objects, and got about 7 rough stones, 1 heavy stone, 1 copper ore, 2 tin ore, 4 Tigerseye, 4 Malachite, and assorted junk. This was for 3 silver a pop, so 3 silver x 20 = 60 silver. Not bad, not good either. While I was there, I was playing around with my macro’s, and put Concussive Shot and Scorpid Sting on the same button, with a cast sequence. This frees up my F button for Multi-shot, and I usually let my Auto shot/Arcane shot do most of the work, popping off a concussive/scorpid only occasionally.
