Maximizing low level quests for fun and profit.....well, maybe not fun, but definitely profit

From Step Two, you’re logged into your throwaway Night Elf, level one. This time, run around and do some quests until you get to at least level 3. Then, go get your 625 XP by getting the Kaldorei recipe in Dolanaar, and continue on to Darnassus. Fly over to Darkshore, and set your hearthstone in Auberdine.

Take the boat at the very end of the pier to get to Azuremyst Isle, You should be pretty close to level 4 by now, with the XP bonus from discovering different areas. If you’re not, kill Moongraze Stags to the south and east of Azure Watch to get the 6 needed Moongraze Stag Tenderloins needed for “The Great Moongraze Hunt.”

Send your recipes to your bank alt, or your Booty Bay transfer character, and stop for a second.

Do you want to spend a few more hours and get three more Ally recipes? They don’t sell as well as the cooking recipes, but they will sell to completionists. I wouldn’t try it until you’ve built up either a stockpile of Copper Ore/Bars (the rough stone can usually be bought anytime for 20 silver a stack), or the necessary items by scanning the AH religiously by typing “copper” and clicking on Weapons, and then Armor.

So, you decided to go for the recipes, you masochist you. Hit your hearthstone to zoom back to Auberdine in Darkshore, then run down the dock and take the boat on the left, going to Stormwind. Run FIRST to the Windrider Master to get the flight point, then go to Dwarven District to take the Tram to Ironforge. Coming south from Tinker Town, go directly to the Windrider to pick up the flight point.

Pick up Blacksmithing and mining, then go pick up 100-160 rough stones from the AH, or have an alt send you them, along with the copper weapons and armor, or the copper and mats to make them. However, you don’t learn the recipe for the Heavy Copper Maul till 65, and the Runed Copper Belt isn’t learned until 70, so its up to you how you want to play it.

Ally Blacksmithing Quests: Get to level 60 Blacksmithing, using only rough stones. Do about 35 rough sharpening stones first, then switch to rough grinding stones. Once you hit 60, both of the BS quests will be ready to pick up at Tormus Deepforge, right at the Great Anvil in Ironforge. The quests are detailed at the end of the post.

If you like, you can drop blacksmithing, and pick up skinning, because you’ve already accepted the quests. Now, it’s time to run to Loch Modan. Make sure you have the 6 copper belts and 6 axes in your inventory, because you’ll turn in the quest before you come to a mailbox. With the mauls and runed belts, keep them in the mail system, so you can get them out of the mail once you get to Redridge.

Follow the path, and feel free to zig-zag a bit if you see a copper node or a rabbit you want to skin. You might as well make some gold while doing this.
Go thru the Southern Entrance to Loch Modan, and turn in the Supplying the Front quest in the Valley of Kings (the round building ahead of you as you come down the path). Now continue North up the path until you get to Thelsamar, then take the gryphon and fly back to Stormwind (you DID remember to get the flightpoints for both Ironforge and SW, right?)

Once you land in SW, just jump into the water below. Follow the path to the east towards Redridge Mountains, and I’d advise walking a little to the right of the path (south) so you can spot the copper nodes that are on the edges of the hills. Try to kill enough mobs along the way so you’re about 1100 XP under dinging level 8, as you’ll need that level for the leatherworking quest.

Once you get to Redridge Mountains, hang a hard left. There’s a little path up thru the mountains that can actually let you get to Lakeshire unharmed, if the mobs are far enough away. If not, just rez at the spirit healer, and swim across the lake to the mailbox at the inn. Get your mauls and belts from the mailbox, turn them in at the eastern edge of town, and you’ve gotten the Ironforge Breastplate recipe! You should be level 8 by now, so hit your hearthstone to zone back to Auberdine.

Take the grypon back to Darnassus, drop mining, and pick up leatherworking. Once you hit level 70 LW, Lotherias will have a “!” over her head, and you’ll have the items already in your inventory. Turn in the quest, send the excess mats and the recipes to your alt to sell off or give to a friend, and never, ever, EVER do that again. It takes way to long, for too little gain.

Definitely take advantage of the Kaldorei recipe being easy to farm, and if you have the time, or if you have a mage friend, have them come to Dolanaar and have them port you to Exodar after you’ve gotten to level 4 (do it with a few of these throwaway toons at a time, so it’s worth their time and yours.

In conclusion, here’s the mat cost and expected sell price of these recipes.

Recipe: Kaldorei Spider Kabob -- 1-20 silver if you buy the mats off the AH, sell on the neutral or Horde AH for 250-350 gold
Recipe: Roasted Moongraze Tenderloin – 0 mat cost. Seriously, there’s a 100% drop on the meat, so you might as well farm it. Sells for 250-350 on NAH or Horde AH.
Recipe: Tasty Lion Steak – 50 silver to 20 gold on the Ally AH. As long as it’s not too expensive, buy it every time you see it on there. Horde will snap it up. 250-350g

The most I’ve ever gotten for the BS or LW recipes on Horde side was about 200 gold, but usually they sell for around 100-150.

For the quest Supplying_the_Front, you’ll need 6 Copper Axes and 6 Copper Chain Belts. For the Axes, that means 36 Copper Bars, 12 Linen Cloth, and 6 Weak Flux. For the Belts, that’s 36 Copper Bars.
Total: 72 Copper Bars, 12 Linen Cloth, 6 Weak Flux.
Reward: Plans:_Heavy_Copper_Longsword

For the quest Gearing_Redridge, you’ll need 4 Runed Copper Belts (40 Copper Bars), and 4 Heavy Copper Maul (48 Copper Bar, 8 Weak Flux, 8 Light Leather)
Total: 88 Copper Bars, 8 Weak Flux, 8 Light Leather.
Reward: Plans: Ironforge_Breastplate

Leatherworking Quest: try using this guide http://www.blizzardguides.com/wow_leatherworking_guide.html or whatever gets you to 70.
For the quest Moonglow_Vest, you’ll need to get to level 8, and level Leatherworking to 70, plus turn in 1 Embossed Leather Gloves (2 Coarse Thread, 3 Light Leather) , 5 Embossed Leather Boots (25 Coarse Thread, 40 Light Leather), and 5 Embossed Leather Cloaks (10 Coarse Thread, 25 Light Leather). Follow the above guide to 59 (probably about 100 Light Leather worth), then make the required quest items from there.
Total: 168+ Light Leather, 37 Coarse Thread.

This is/will be posted on Markco’s site, when he has a slot open for it, but I figured I might as well post it here as well.

Here’s another quick thing to keep in mind for making gold if you’re Ally side on a PvP server, or if you’re whatever on a PvE server. Quest:Recipe_of_the_Kaldorei
is a low level quest available to Ally only characters. How low level? Well, actually, level 1 ONE one (1). So, if you happen to scan your auction house, and find 5 full stacks of 10 Small Spider Legs for 10 silver a stack, you’d have all you needed to make a TON of gold.

Step 1: Make a bunch of Night elf toons. I usually name them Kaldorone, Kaldortwo….

Step 2: Log on to your toon with the spider legs and at least some money. Send 7 small spider legs AND 95 copper to each of these throwaway toons.

Step 3: Zone in to the starting area, and immediately run to Dolanaar. Pick up your copper and legs from the mailbox, make a hard left towards the lake, and talk to Zarrin to learn the cooking skill for 95 copper. Ding! The quest appears immediately over Zarrin’s head, and you accept it and immediately turn it in. Sell off the extra Kaldorei Spider Kabob and your starting food, and you end up with 1 silver, 19 copper. Run back to the mailbox, send it to whoever, along with the 89 copper (leaving you broke), and delete the toon. Rinse and repeat for as many times as you can stand. While the entire process only takes about 2-3 minutes, it is extremely boring, especially if you have mods (CT mods always cover my screen when logging in a new toon. I guess I could turn them off, duh!)

Step 4: Collect your recipes, and go to the neutral Auction House in Booty Bay/Tanaris/Winterspring. I prefer Winterspring, since it’s not that popular, because if you’re high enough for it, you’re high enough for Outlands. Posting with an alt on a PvP server at Booty Bay is extremely frustrating, since you can get ganked a lot, or even accidentally ganked by a high level going for the Bloodsail achievement, and his AoE spells kill you.
Now, if you only have access to one account on a PvP server, here’s where it stops. I’d say experiment with posting at 60-100 gold, and keep increasing until sales drop off. You can even have another alt Post at 200-300 gold, to get people wondering why these recipes are so expensive. They look it up, they see it’s Ally only, they buy it. Cha-ching!
By the way, Horde toons can do the same thing by buying the Recipe: Elixir of Giant Growth and Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight recipes from the Horde AH, and reposting at a large profit on the Neutral AH.

Extra Credit Step 5: If you have access to a second account, or another person you know plays WOW and isn’t on your server, ask them to help you get it to Horde (If you’re on a PvE server, you could get a guildy to make a Horde toon to help you out.). You post the Kaldorei recipe for 1 copper bid/1 copper buyout, and they immediately buy it out. They or you post it on the Horde Auction house for 80-100-130 gold, and wait for the money to roll in. Now, if you use Auctioneer to make money on the margin, this long of a process won’t appeal to you. But, considering that you could get 8 of these recipes in under 20 minutes if you had the 8x7=56 Small Spider Legs and 8 silver, that translates to over 800 gold on Horde side. You (or your friend) can use that to buy mats for your professions, or buy the Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight at wholesale, or just buy Abyss Crystals to bring back over to Ally side and sell off.

Patch 3.08 Death Knigget Explosion

Patch 3.08 should be hitting the servers this morning, so it’ll be time to make a new Death Knight this afternoon. I’ve been wanting to play with Francois and his wife on Lightbringer, but really, really, haven’t wanted to level up any toons. This will allow me to have a 55 toon on that server, and since they haven’t gotten their DK’s past 60, we can all level together.

I think I’ll go with a Night Elf female. I like gnomes because of their passive +15 engineering racial ability, but at 55, a DK has the opportunity to have up to 375 engineering automatically, if you powerleveled them. Besides, this is a care-bear server (PvE), so I won’t need engineering to help prevent being ganked. I figure I’ll go Mining and Skinning up until 60+, then drop skinning for engineering once I get to Outlands. Same plan as Pallormortis on Demon Soul, just less pressure, since I only have to worry about mobs killing me. So for that reason, I’ll go with Night Elf, since Shadowmeld will have uses throughout the game, whereas the +15 engineering won’t.

In other news, Tsuris is now level 38 ½!!! I spent a bunch of time leveling him over the weekend, and now he’s going to be my highest level Leatherworker. Along the way of leveling, I dinged Exalted with Stormwind, since I had done so much questing there, plus a lot of quests give rep with them anyway. I had originally started both Tsuris and Preyonyou with the idea of grinding rep with Darnassus, to get the Nightsaber mounts, but this happened along the way. I did most of my questing in Dustwallow, and didn’t bother going back to Exodar for my level 30 Totem of Air quest until level 37, since I wanted to get Exalted with SW and get my horsies. Yup, Horsies, plural. I bought all four of the Stormwind mounts, and later on, I bought all three Darnassus cats. I also made a macro to randomly select what mount I’ll use, so it’ll keep it interesting.

You get the idea. Not sure if I named the mounts correctly, since I’m doing this off the top of my head while at work.

I also looked up upcoming profession quests for Tsuris. Of course, I know about the engineering spec quest, but the leatherworking ones will be new to me. Apparently, there’s two. Wild Leather, available around level 30, and your actual specialization quest, available at 40. Wild leather is like the blacksmithing quests, where you have to make a bunch of items and turn them in to receive additional recipes. A good amount of Thick Leather is needed, and TONS of Turtle Scales (considering I only have 7 in my bank). It looks like Ryoushigishi will have to brush the dust off his gun, and get to killing turtles in Tanaris. He’s level 37 I believe, and the turtles are around 40, so that should be good XP as well as turtle meat and turtle scales for Tsuris.

Also for Tsuris, I’m going to be doing the opposite of what I do with paladins. Since I want the Pet Bombling minipet on a least ONE toon on each server, I’ve decided to have my Shamans go Goblin first, get the Goblin Dragon Gun and minipet (not the Goblin Mortar, since he won’t be able to reload it), and respec to Gnomish. Yeah, it’s kinda a pain, and expensive, but……what else do I need to do with my gold? I’ve gotten a bunch of epics off the AH, I’ve gotten most if not all all recipes I’ll need in the foreseeable future, and….I got the gold and the time.

Surprisingly, my Ally account on Daggerspine has the most toons over level 35 now. Only Doomslinger (19 twink) and Preyonyou (26 Priest) are under that level. On Demon Soul, Burizadokyan (27 Priest), Morticide (26 druid), and Kukoshakaku (28 Shaman) still need to be leveled.

Recap on Gold: Demon Soul is about 50.3 K, Daggerspine is about 42K, and my baby account on Darrowmere is just over 16K. I attribute most of the gold to level 300 enchanting recipe scrolls on Demon Soul and Daggerspine, as well as my ruthless manipulation of the Glyph market on all servers. People have a natural tendency to try to sell items at any price, and usually end up driving the market down. For the people who rely on the AH for materials, rather than grinding for them, that’s a good thing. For the sellers, it’s a bad thing. So, for example, if I see some of the glyphs that I normally sell for at least 20+ gold being sold at 5-8 gold, I’ll price my regular 4 glyphs (since I only make 4 at one time, since it’s not wise to flood the market) at a high price, like 30-35 gold. By the next day, the lower priced glyphs have been sold off, and people are undercutting my high priced glyphs, leaving me free to undercut them, still at a nice profit.

The Definitive Guide to making Gold in WOW

I'm not sure how much I've covered in my previous posts, so I figured I would do a recap of easy ways to make Gold in World of Warcraft.

1 - Beg for it. Swallow your pride, ignore people giving you advice on how to make money by taking up gathering/crafting professions, and spam the trade channel tirelessly with comments like "I'm level 6, and need 10 gold 4 new armorz" "Can anyone give me money for my epic ride? I pay back next week, swear!"
It will work, eventually. Someone will get tired of your whining and give you a few gold to shut you up.
(The above is sarcasm, just felt like listing it)

2 - Take up a gathering profession. Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining will all give you a good gold return for the few seconds it takes to gather a metal/herb node or skin a beast.

3 - Take up a crafting profession. Leatherworking, Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, Inscription, and even Engineering can produce items to make you money. Inscription is the newest one, and as such, if you log in every 20+ hours to do your Minor Inscription Research, you can make a lot of money off the minor glyphs pretty early on. The other professions usually don't start making money until later levels.

4 - If you've downloaded Auctioneer, you can use Bottomscanner or whatever it's called to gather prices of all the items in the AH. Keep doing this regularly, and your computer will build up a database of prices for the items. This will allow you to see when someone posts an item below the average price, which you can buy and resell for a profit. (Not my favorite way to make gold, but to each his own)

5 - Whenever you pass by a tradeskill supplies vendor, peruse their stock to see if they have recipes for sale. For example, Rikqiz in Booty Bay sells the Shadowskin Gloves recipe for 35 silver, but you can easily sell it for 5-8 gold in the Auction House. Some recipes sell very well, others bomb. You kinda have to develop a sense for them.

6 - Become a Neutral Auction House (NAH) supplier. There are certain recipes that are Horde or Alliance ONLY, buyable only by someone of that faction. But, if you buy them, and bring them to the NAH, you can post them for much, much more than they're worth. The Pattern: Red Whelp Gloves is sold in the Wetlands by Wenna Silkbeard for 14 silver and 40 copper. If you left an Alliance alt there, and logged in every few hours, you could build up a bunch of the recipes for only a few gold. But, you can sell each of those recipes for at least 6-10 gold on the NAH, since Horde players can't normally get them. Check here for a full list. http://www.wowwiki.com/Faction_exclusive_recipes
The Recipe: Tasty Lion Steak can be bought on Alliance auction houses for 1-2 gold, since it's quest reward, and not everyone decided to take up cooking. You could probably get at least 20-30 gold for it on the NAH.
Formula: Enchant Chest - Lesser Mana is sold for 4 silver in the Drag in Orgrimmar, and I'm guessing you could get 8-10 gold for it.
There's also recipes that you only have to go a little ways into a profession to get, like Plans: Heavy Copper Longsword & Plans: Ironforge Breastplate, a level 5 alliance player can powerlevel his blacksmithing to about 50, make the necessary items, complete the quests, and be able to sell the Ironforge plans for at least 100g.
I'm conjecturing on some of these items, because I stopped posting on the neutral auction house a long time ago. I discovered a better way, shown below

7 - Become a smuggler. Know someone who plays Warcraft, and isn't on your server already? Congrats, they just became your new best friend. You can work out an arrangement, where they create a toon on the opposite faction, you buy a worthless item from them for a few gold, and they go buy the recipes/pets you want. They bring them back to the NAH, post them for 1 copper bid/buyout, and congrats, you have a recipe/pet that you didn't have to spend a ton of gold on. If they're really accomodating, they can get multiples, and you can bring them back to your AH to make a killing.
The 12 cooking recipes (except the Curiously Tasty Omelet) sold by Kendor Kabonka in Old Town in Stormwind, on the second story landing above the cooking trainer can be bought for about 1 gold for the set. Get them over to Horde side, and you can sell them for 6-8-10-15-20-30 gold EACH, depending on what people will pay for them. Go high, and work your way down.
The Savory Deviate Delight and the lesser known Elixir of Giant Growth recipes are Barrens only drops, which means Horde toons are usually the only characters to get them, as Allies don't spend too much time grinding those mobs. You can probably get the Giant Growth recipe for 2-10 gold, and the Savory recipe for 20-50 gold. Get them to Ally side (with your friend helping you), and the Giant Growth can sell for up to 100g, and the Savory will sell for 250-300g.

If you do a little of each of the above steps (except #1), you'll soon have enough to provide you with enough gold to do whatever you want. If you don't suffer from altoholism like me, your main will have more gold than they know what to do with.

Engineering: The great Equalizer

I have 2 stories, both similar in type. I was taking Bonescourge my level 41 Undead Warlock over to Arathi Highlands to finish up some quests there, and to help a friend do some quests as well. As I’m waiting for the zeppelin by Orgrimmar, a level 52 Orc hunter challenges me to a duel, because he was “board.” I offered some nails, and he laughed. After some consideration, I accepted the challenge. The countdown ended, and I immediately hit my /petattack /shadowbolt macro, followed up by Corruption and my other DOT spell. After a few seconds, he calls his pet BACK to help him out, since my Voidwalker is evidently doing more damage than he expected. I really wasn’t taking the duel seriously, or else I would have pulled out one of my dragonlings or my chicken. I didn’t think I’d win. Well, I didn’t, and that was my fault. At the end, he had about 5% health left, and had started concentrating fire on me, with his pet attacking me. I started casting a Fel Iron Bomb, but it was too late. But hey! Level 41 against a level 52, not too bad!

My friend Francois was helping his wife Darla level in Hillsbrad last night, and has a story with a better end. He’s a level 46 Troll hunter, and she’s a level 28 BE rogue. They were running around doing quests, and occasionally getting nuked by bored 70’s with nothing better to do. Not much you can do, just do a /bored or /violin at them while they’re attacking you, so they don’t get the satisfaction of watching you run.

Anyway, they were running along the south side of the main road in Hillsbrad, when they see a level 52 druid checking them out. They stop, /wave, and see what he’s going to do. He waits a bit, and then starts casting Wrath. Francois really didn’t want to get into it, so he decides to take the hit and see if the guy will quit. It hits him, the guy gets another one off, and Francois said “Enough.” He tells his pet to attack, Humar takes off out of Prowl, and starts hitting the druid. Francois starts running towards the druid, firing as he runs, and between his shots and his pet, they get the druid down to about 2/3’s health, same as Francois. When he gets near enough, he hits his Mithril Mechanical Dragonling. The druid sees it, and freakin’ bolts for Southshore. Too late! A couple of hits from Humar and the dragonling, and the druid is toast. Chalk one up to Engineering!

So from an opponent’s point of view, he sees a hunter run up on him, and suddenly he’s faced with 3 dragons AND a hunter. Granted, the non-attack pet won’t do anything, but from an intimidation standpoint, that would be quite scary to see all of them surrounding the hunter. You’d have to have a Windserpent, and as a Horde hunter, you’d want Arikara, since he’s the only pet in the game to appear in a puff of smoke and explosive noise. The rundown of the engineering dragonlings would make sure that it would switch to your highest available Dragonling, which you should have equipped anyway. If not, it would equip it if you were out of combat, and then you’d have to wait 30 seconds for the cooldown, which would spoil the effect somewhat.

On a closing note, I bought a Phantom Blade for Clockworknyt on Demon Soul for 100g. Why did I buy it, when I have Bullkathos, who’s level 300 Blacksmithing? It would cost me more for the mats, with the high prices of Breath of Wind and gems on that server. Anyway, I’m finally starting to get into doing high level enchanting recipes with Banesidhe, since he has Crusader, Lifesteal, Fiery, Icy Chill, Unholy….might as well start using them, now that the money is rolling in from the Lifelike Mechanical Toads that Bonescourge makes, and the minor Inscriptions that ….Bonescourge inscribes. Hmmm, didn’t think about it, but he’s jumped up from about 200 gold, to about 1800 gold in just about a week or so. I had a 500 gold day yesterday, as in opened my mailbox, walked away, and came back to being 500 gold richer. Pretty sweet for level 42.

But I digress. I decided to get the Phantom Blade, and put Lifesteal on it for Clockworknyt, my BE paladin. I had started leveling my new BE paladin on Darrowmere, and was astonished at how well the Seals and Judgement system worked. I figure, with the health from the Judgement of Life, PLUS Lifesteal, I’ll be pretty hard to beat in encounters with Allies on Demon Soul. I also like the bonuses on the weapon Phantom Blade, as it gives a Sunder like ability, as well as stealth prevention when you’re fighting rogues. The violet glow that Lifesteal gives the sword is nice, but I prefer my crossed Fiery and Icy Phantom Blades that Bullkathos wears on his back.

The Third Auctioneer

Wow, I wasted a bunch of time yesterday. I had added the name of the toon that jacked my stuff to my Ally alt, so I could track if he was still camping the neutral AH in Booty Bay. Well, Jijucali, a level 6 Night Elf Priest, was still online and in Booty Bay when I logged on. I didn’t feel like losing anymore items, so I figured I’d ask Francois to take his level 37 troll Hunter over there, and see if he could bring some “pointed” arguments to leave my stuff alone. He gets over there, and /targets Jiju. According to the “See target of target” UI, he was targeting some auctioneer I had never heard of. I was used to Auctioneer O’Reely by the mailbox/bank/Gbank, and Auctioneer Graves over by the Engineering supplies vendor, but I wasn’t aware there was a 3rd one. Well, there is! As you go down the ramp towards Old Man Heming (fishing supplies vendor), turn left, and go into the building. There’s an auctioneer, with about 3 Booty Bay guards surrounding him. Jijucali was /sleeping behind him, in a little hollow created by a bookshelf on the right, and a bunch of boxes to the left. In that position, you are so out of sight, your name actually doesn’t show up in the room. It actually projects thru the wall, and shows up outside the building. Not all races can get into that position though. The troll hunter was too tall, and couldn’t walk down into the hollow, but I had no problem with my human paladin alt.

So, I actually have to thank Jiju for teaching me something. It cost me a 20 stack of Truesilver Bars, 10 Essences of Fire, and 1 or maybe 2 Large Seaforium Charge recipes (the same thing had happened to me a while back while transferring stuff, and it may have been Jiju). Bonero /bowed to him for showing me the hiding spot, then told his pet to stay, ran and jumped off the dock, and told his pet to attack. Apparently he wasn’t far enough out that the guards couldn’t get to him, so he got slaughtered. But, Jiju was dead, and stayed dead for a while.

I didn’t want to start transferring yet, fearing he would come back and make my transfer complicated, so Francois took the hunter up to Grom’Grol, and went over to the engineering supplies vendor to the south of the Mosh’Ogg Ogre mound. He picked up the Mechanical Dragonling and Deadly Scope schematics, then flew back down to BB and started some engineering powerleveling. Bonero had gotten to 240 before coming over to BB, so he was able to train the Sniper Scope recipe. He made about 10, before realizing that he wanted to make Dense Blasting Powder at 250-260, since that’s the only stretch where you actually get points for making it. He made about 50+ of them, since it goes green at around 55, to finally get to 260 engineering.

After that I checked to see if Jiju had popped up again. He had, so Francois killed him again, then started my transferring. I’m 99% sure he’s a bot, because a real player would probably pop up again soon after I killed them. Not too mention, he snapped up my auctions within seconds of posting them, and I had my other computer ready to hit refresh with the name of the item typed out already. Some script kiddy or gold farmer running a bot designed to scan the neutral AH for low or ridiculously low bargains, then buying them hyperquickly. Oh well, live and learn, and now I know the best place to bring my toons for transferring, so I consider it money well spent.

I brought over about 6 sets of Ally cooking recipes for his AH alt to sell at 10-12 gold, so we’ll see how that goes. He’s currently at about 1800 gold, with another 400 on my Ally account that I could change into Void Crystals and bring over, so that’s a nice little nest egg for him to have.

Finally, I was able to play MY characters. I decided to run Bloodshrike (Darrowmere Belf Hunter) up to Darkshore to get my Ghostsaber. No problems, didn’t see a single soul out adventuring. After making laps around the main valley, and collecting 7 cat statues, one finally spawned a level 19 Ghost Saber. I had already tossed down a freezing trap before opening the statue, so I quickly abandoned my trusty level 19 Dragonhawk, and set about taming my new friend. I got him, hearthed back to Thunder Bluff, renamed him DarkGhostnss, and logged out.

I’m getting burned out on the whole making money on the AH thing. With 3 of my own servers to check, each with 1-2 people that sell stuff on the AH, and have a whole laundry list of things to check for cheap prices on, it gets really time consuming. For example, I have Bullkathos & Kukoshakaku on Demonsoul as my main sellers. Kukoshakaku is my LW, who will check for cheap prices on Shadowcat hide, spider’s silk, Large Fang, Heavy Hide, and Heavy Leather. He also puts up 1 Arcanite rod at 75-90 gold, and a Sniper scope at 25-30 gold, to provide a high price for Bullkathos to price multiples of the same item and undercut Kuko’s prices. Bullkathos will check gobl (anything goblin), gnom (anything gnomish), mech (for the mechbuilder’s overalls and mechanical toad recipe), and dragonl (to see if the Arcanite dragonling recipe is being posted, or if the actual trinket is posted). He also scans parts, items, and explosives under the trade goods section, to see if there’s anything posted at a cheap price. Then I type elemental (for fire/air/water/earth), essence of (fire/air/water/earth/undeath), Core of Earth, Heart of Fire, Living essence (for my next engineer who hits lvl 35, so they can powerlevel using the mechanical toad recipe). I also look up simple gems, since that’s all I’m using at the current time, paying particular attention to the Star Ruby and Arcane Crystal prices, since I make most of my gold from Sniper Scopes and Arcanite Rods/Bars.

Same thing with Clockwrkmage and Tsuris on Daggerspine, and Clockwrkmage on Darrowmere is my only seller. I open all my mail from the previous day, repost stuff that didn’t sell, and make stuff if I have the mats assembled. Then, I go to the opposite factions AH, using Kevin’s account, and do pretty much the same thing. I can get home at 5, and maybe finish up with checking the AH by 8 pm. It’s no kind of life, especially since I don’t really need gold much anymore. I’ve got packed guild banks to draw upon (3 tabs on Demon Soul and Daggerspine, 2 on Darrowmere), I’ve bought most of the 1-300 level recipes for ALL my toons, and yet it’s still hard to stop checking for bargains. I originally started this because I wanted to have enough to buy mounts at level 40 for all my toons on Demon Soul. Well, now that they’ve lowered the price to 35 gold for training, and about 8 g for the mount, I’ve got about 15x25=375 mounts (G15,000).

It HAS worked out for me getting recipes that weren’t posted on my own factions AH, like the Steel Weapon Chain BS recipe. I’ve gotten that for both Daggerspine and Darrowmere from the opposing factions AH, because it’s never offered on my own. I still want the Thorium Shield Spike recipe for those 2 servers though, because it’s so cheap to make, and makes it very easy and cheap to level from 285 to 300 Blacksmithing. Not to mention it’s almost as damaging as the Felsteel spike, and way….way…way cheaper to make.

Onto giving updates on my toons. I’ve gotten 2 level 44’s on Demon Soul, and 2 lvl 42’s on Daggerspine. I also went down the list and got all of my toons to at least lvl 11 on Darrowmere, having them each run to TB when they hit level 10, so they could get all the weapon masters and waypoints along the way, do the quest for the Kodo hide bag recipe, and then fly to Ratchett to powerlevel engineering to 150.

I have it down to a science now. Do about 40 rough stones to get to about 30+ engineering, then do about 80 copper bars to make 80 copper bolts (needed to make target dummies). Make enough copper tubes (usually about 5 or so) to level up enough to make copper modulators, and make them until you get to 75 engineering. At that point you have a choice. You can either make 20 Coarse stones into 20 Coarse Blasting powder, or continue making copper modulators. Either way, continue until you can make Target dummies, then start cranking them out. I usually end up with about 20 target dummies at level 105 engineering. I usually make some bronze tubes or EZ-throw dynamite (for my priest) or small seaforium charges at this point, in order to level up to 125.

At 125 you can make Heavy Blasting powder, and then turn around and use it in making Heavy Dynamite. That pretty much takes you up to 150, where I’m able to equip my Green-Eye Goggles (the ones that give +8 stamina and spirit), which provides a big boost to any level 10 character, no matter the class.

Well, I’m out here working on the Controls for a certain fruit-shaped computer company, trying to gather my thoughts about what’s happened since my last update of the blog, while my brain is stewing ideas over for my actual job here today. I’m making the graphical user interface for the HVAC system here, but I’m still a little hazy on what to do. I find it helps to just go for a smoke, or work on something else, and my brain will continue thinking about the problem in the background, and come up with something later.

Inflation continues to rise in all….six of the servers I’m currently playing on. “Six servers!?!” Yup, six servers. Demon Soul, Daggerspine, and Darrowmere are my main ones, and I started a few toons on Lightbringer to maybe get around to hanging out with my buddy Francois one of these days. I also made some toons on Gurubashi and Draka, just to help Francois and Kevin (both are coworkers) powerlevel their gold reserves on their new servers.

On Thursday, June 5th, Francois had 38 gold on his level 35 Horde hunter on Gurabashi. After I used 8 gold to buy a Recipe: Elixir of Giant Growth, he had 30. I had already started making money on that server by buying Coarse Blasting powder, and selling it on the AH when I reached a full 20 stack, which is how I usually start out on a new server. Anyways, he traded me the Giant Growth formula, and I gave him about 3 sets of the Ally cooking quest recipes, and told him to put them on the AH for 8-10g each (the full 12 set costs about 1g total for an Ally). The recipes sold out by the next day, and kept selling like hotcakes.

I supplemented his sales with the proceeds of what I got on the opposite faction, and as of last night, he was up to 1100 gold. Plus, I have about 300 gold on the Ally side, just waiting to get a price difference between Horde and Ally enchanting mats. I usually buy from one side to convert my gold to untouchable currency, transfer thru the neutral AH at 1 copper or so, and sell on the other side. Well, it rankles me to lose money, so I’m not going to buy Void crystals on the Ally side at 45 gold, and only sell them on the Horde side for 38 gold.

I’m also doing the same for my other friend Kevin. He’s on a PvE server, so I wasn’t quite sure if it would work, but it did. He had 5 gold, he bought me a set of the cooking recipes, and I sold them within the hour for 6 gold each. He’s now up to 300 gold. I was worried that someone would tumble to my trick, and make a toon on the Horde side to buy the recipes, give them to a friend, and have the friend sell the recipes to them. I guess other peeps just aren’t as devious as me.

Panzergishi just finished up Duskwood last night, dinging 33 when he turned in the Embalmer quest, after killing the Embalmer’s wife. I have to say I like the lore in Duskwood, but I hate the running back and forth. At least you can fly over to Westfall for an easy journey to the west side of Duskwood, but it’s still annoying.

Holy smokes…..I just got over 10,100 gold on Demon Soul last night, and I only have 5 lvl 40+ characters on there. I have about 7,700 gold on Daggerspine, and buying Void Crystals and Large Prismatic shards on the Ally auction house with my 300 gold worth of Elixir of Giant Growth sales, bringing them thru the neutral AH, and selling them on the Horde AH, got me to 2000 gold on my new Horde account on Darrowmere. My Toons there range from 2-12, but I like to make gold first, level later, so I’ll always be able to afford anything I need/want. Since he’ll be getting to 35 soon, and unlocking the 225-300 level of Blacksmithing and Engineering, I’m going to need to level Gwiddonyon to level 35 soon, so she can transmute the 60 arcane crystals and Thorium ore she has saved up in her bank, making 60 Arcanite Bars. That’ll powerlevel her to 300 Alchemy I’m sure, and give Panzer plenty of Arcanite to make Arcanite Rods with. I also need to level Clockwrkmage to 35, so she can get her Enchanting up to 300. I’ll be needing a lot more high level enchants on my level 40+ toons, and I don’t feel like tipping to get them done.

Panzer is almost out of well-rested, so it’s probably time to send him over to Southshore, since he only has 171 fishing, and I need 225 to get the fishing quest at level 35. I also need to make sure to talk to the fishing and cooking trainers in Ironforge at that time, to get the travel quests to Nat Pagle and the cooking quest guy in Tanaris. They’re not needed to get the quests, but it’s an easy 1000 xp each.

Neutral Auction House and recipes

I didn’t get around to ghostrunning in Outlands last night, but I did come to a realization that you can make a lot of gold by selling recipes on the neutral AH. Not useful recipes, like the Herbalist glove or Red Whelp glove, but the ones that completionists look for, like the Yellow Shirt from Darkshire, or the 2 Barrens recipes that Allies can rarely get. I’m talking about the Savory Deviate Delight and the Elixir of Giant growth, both of which only drop from mobs in the Barrens.

Even on a low pop server like Darrowmere, I can buy the Deviate recipe for 15 gold on the AH, and turn around and sell it for 50 gold. The Giant growth recipe I buy for 2 gold, and sell it for 10 gold. All you need is an alt posted in Booty Bay (the easiest neutral AH to get to), and a few minutes a day. I usually log out in the inn, so I don’t have to wait for 20 seconds to log out. Once I log in, I go to the leatherworking supplies vendor to look for the Shadowskin gloves recipe & the Gem-studded belt recipe, which I’ll sell on neutral AH or my capitol city AH for 5-6 gold and 3-4 gold, respectively.

Once I buy them, I jump off the ledge to talk to the engineering vendor, to buy Coarse blasting powder and occasionally the Accurate scope recipe (can sell for 1-3 gold in your own AH). Then check the guy at the end of the building who’s selling parrots, since he also sells the Black Swashbuckler shirt recipe ( can sell on your own AH for 3-5 gold). Then you head to the Auctioneer, and post the Savory Deviate Delight and Elixir of Giant growth recipes, and wait for the money to roll in.
