This is/will be posted on Markco’s site, when he has a slot open for it, but I figured I might as well post it here as well.
Here’s another quick thing to keep in mind for making gold if you’re Ally side on a PvP server, or if you’re whatever on a PvE server. Quest:Recipe_of_the_Kaldorei
is a low level quest available to Ally only characters. How low level? Well, actually, level 1 ONE one (1). So, if you happen to scan your auction house, and find 5 full stacks of 10 Small Spider Legs for 10 silver a stack, you’d have all you needed to make a TON of gold.
Step 1: Make a bunch of Night elf toons. I usually name them Kaldorone, Kaldortwo….
Step 2: Log on to your toon with the spider legs and at least some money. Send 7 small spider legs AND 95 copper to each of these throwaway toons.
Step 3: Zone in to the starting area, and immediately run to Dolanaar. Pick up your copper and legs from the mailbox, make a hard left towards the lake, and talk to Zarrin to learn the cooking skill for 95 copper. Ding! The quest appears immediately over Zarrin’s head, and you accept it and immediately turn it in. Sell off the extra Kaldorei Spider Kabob and your starting food, and you end up with 1 silver, 19 copper. Run back to the mailbox, send it to whoever, along with the 89 copper (leaving you broke), and delete the toon. Rinse and repeat for as many times as you can stand. While the entire process only takes about 2-3 minutes, it is extremely boring, especially if you have mods (CT mods always cover my screen when logging in a new toon. I guess I could turn them off, duh!)
Step 4: Collect your recipes, and go to the neutral Auction House in Booty Bay/Tanaris/Winterspring. I prefer Winterspring, since it’s not that popular, because if you’re high enough for it, you’re high enough for Outlands. Posting with an alt on a PvP server at Booty Bay is extremely frustrating, since you can get ganked a lot, or even accidentally ganked by a high level going for the Bloodsail achievement, and his AoE spells kill you.
Now, if you only have access to one account on a PvP server, here’s where it stops. I’d say experiment with posting at 60-100 gold, and keep increasing until sales drop off. You can even have another alt Post at 200-300 gold, to get people wondering why these recipes are so expensive. They look it up, they see it’s Ally only, they buy it. Cha-ching!
By the way, Horde toons can do the same thing by buying the Recipe: Elixir of Giant Growth and Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight recipes from the Horde AH, and reposting at a large profit on the Neutral AH.
Extra Credit Step 5: If you have access to a second account, or another person you know plays WOW and isn’t on your server, ask them to help you get it to Horde (If you’re on a PvE server, you could get a guildy to make a Horde toon to help you out.). You post the Kaldorei recipe for 1 copper bid/1 copper buyout, and they immediately buy it out. They or you post it on the Horde Auction house for 80-100-130 gold, and wait for the money to roll in. Now, if you use Auctioneer to make money on the margin, this long of a process won’t appeal to you. But, considering that you could get 8 of these recipes in under 20 minutes if you had the 8x7=56 Small Spider Legs and 8 silver, that translates to over 800 gold on Horde side. You (or your friend) can use that to buy mats for your professions, or buy the Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight at wholesale, or just buy Abyss Crystals to bring back over to Ally side and sell off.
Hope you liked it,

To make inordinate amounts of gold or not to make inordinate amounts of gold, that is the question;
2/13/09
Bloodshrike1 hit 61 last night, still in Azeroth. I’m trying to get thru the quests in my log, even though a lot of them are grey, just because I’m stubborn. I think I’ve gotten all the Zul’Farakk quests for Tanaris assembled, as well as the Sunken Temple quests (since there’s a Hunter quest that’s in ST). Now I have to see if I’ll be able to solo them at 61, with my AOE gorilla keeping all the aggro on him.
I’ve definitely slacked off on my gold frenzy, letting a couple of days lapse between logins of my AH toons. It just takes too much time out of my day to try and keep up, leaving very little time for actual questing. I can log in at 5 pm, and still be posting stuff at 7 or 8 pm. There’s just a lot of work involved in posting. With Scribes, you open up all your mail, accept the 100+ gold from the glyphs that sold (my usual average), make additional glyphs to get you back up to 3-4 of each minor glyph that they know makes a profit, and then go to the AH. Click on each glyph to see what other people are selling them for, then undercut them. Then, select Trade Goods and type Ink or Pigm, to see if I can pick up any that are low priced. Since I’m in Trade goods anyway, I usually select Jewelcrafting/Parts/Devices/Explosives to see if there’s any bargains. If the Scribe is the only one who’s going to log in on that server that day, I’ll usually check recipes for BS/Engineering/Tailoring/Enchanting to see if AckisRecipeList sees anything that my toons can learn.
But, I am making about 5k gold per month with Demon Soul AND Daggerspine, since they both have Enchanters/Blacksmiths that are 300, and can provide Arcanite Rods and high level enchants for the AH. And on my Horde accounts, they usually have the Ally cooking recipes to sell on the AH, providing 10-15 gold each. Multiply that by 5-12 per day, every day, and it comes up to a lot of gold. Demon Soul now has over 56k (even after buying my level 60 land mount and training for Bloodshrike), Daggerspine has about 49k, and Darrowmere is probably around 21k.

Patch 3.08 Death Knigget Explosion
1/20/09
Patch 3.08 should be hitting the servers this morning, so it’ll be time to make a new Death Knight this afternoon. I’ve been wanting to play with Francois and his wife on Lightbringer, but really, really, haven’t wanted to level up any toons. This will allow me to have a 55 toon on that server, and since they haven’t gotten their DK’s past 60, we can all level together.
I think I’ll go with a Night Elf female. I like gnomes because of their passive +15 engineering racial ability, but at 55, a DK has the opportunity to have up to 375 engineering automatically, if you powerleveled them. Besides, this is a care-bear server (PvE), so I won’t need engineering to help prevent being ganked. I figure I’ll go Mining and Skinning up until 60+, then drop skinning for engineering once I get to Outlands. Same plan as Pallormortis on Demon Soul, just less pressure, since I only have to worry about mobs killing me. So for that reason, I’ll go with Night Elf, since Shadowmeld will have uses throughout the game, whereas the +15 engineering won’t.
In other news, Tsuris is now level 38 ½!!! I spent a bunch of time leveling him over the weekend, and now he’s going to be my highest level Leatherworker. Along the way of leveling, I dinged Exalted with Stormwind, since I had done so much questing there, plus a lot of quests give rep with them anyway. I had originally started both Tsuris and Preyonyou with the idea of grinding rep with Darnassus, to get the Nightsaber mounts, but this happened along the way. I did most of my questing in Dustwallow, and didn’t bother going back to Exodar for my level 30 Totem of Air quest until level 37, since I wanted to get Exalted with SW and get my horsies. Yup, Horsies, plural. I bought all four of the Stormwind mounts, and later on, I bought all three Darnassus cats. I also made a macro to randomly select what mount I’ll use, so it’ll keep it interesting.
/castrandom Pinto, Black Warhorse, Spotted Nightsaber….
You get the idea. Not sure if I named the mounts correctly, since I’m doing this off the top of my head while at work.
I also looked up upcoming profession quests for Tsuris. Of course, I know about the engineering spec quest, but the leatherworking ones will be new to me. Apparently, there’s two. Wild Leather, available around level 30, and your actual specialization quest, available at 40. Wild leather is like the blacksmithing quests, where you have to make a bunch of items and turn them in to receive additional recipes. A good amount of Thick Leather is needed, and TONS of Turtle Scales (considering I only have 7 in my bank). It looks like Ryoushigishi will have to brush the dust off his gun, and get to killing turtles in Tanaris. He’s level 37 I believe, and the turtles are around 40, so that should be good XP as well as turtle meat and turtle scales for Tsuris.
Also for Tsuris, I’m going to be doing the opposite of what I do with paladins. Since I want the Pet Bombling minipet on a least ONE toon on each server, I’ve decided to have my Shamans go Goblin first, get the Goblin Dragon Gun and minipet (not the Goblin Mortar, since he won’t be able to reload it), and respec to Gnomish. Yeah, it’s kinda a pain, and expensive, but……what else do I need to do with my gold? I’ve gotten a bunch of epics off the AH, I’ve gotten most if not all all recipes I’ll need in the foreseeable future, and….I got the gold and the time.
Surprisingly, my Ally account on Daggerspine has the most toons over level 35 now. Only Doomslinger (19 twink) and Preyonyou (26 Priest) are under that level. On Demon Soul, Burizadokyan (27 Priest), Morticide (26 druid), and Kukoshakaku (28 Shaman) still need to be leveled.
Recap on Gold: Demon Soul is about 50.3 K, Daggerspine is about 42K, and my baby account on Darrowmere is just over 16K. I attribute most of the gold to level 300 enchanting recipe scrolls on Demon Soul and Daggerspine, as well as my ruthless manipulation of the Glyph market on all servers. People have a natural tendency to try to sell items at any price, and usually end up driving the market down. For the people who rely on the AH for materials, rather than grinding for them, that’s a good thing. For the sellers, it’s a bad thing. So, for example, if I see some of the glyphs that I normally sell for at least 20+ gold being sold at 5-8 gold, I’ll price my regular 4 glyphs (since I only make 4 at one time, since it’s not wise to flood the market) at a high price, like 30-35 gold. By the next day, the lower priced glyphs have been sold off, and people are undercutting my high priced glyphs, leaving me free to undercut them, still at a nice profit.

Whew, Mastery of professions is expensive! I finally got around to leveling Bloodshrike on Demon Soul in his professions, since he’s 55. Alchemy probably took 200 gold to powerlevel, and it would have been higher, but I had a ton of herbs saved up from Morticide camping the Darkmoon Faire for herbs and motes. I haven’t picked Potion or Transmute as a specialty yet, and I haven’t researched where/when to do that. You probably have to be level 60 or something, but I’m an impatient little sod, and want to powerlevel professions as soon as I can.
Bloodshrike’s Engineering is probably around 330 right now. I’m torn between making Arcanite Dragonlings, since I had Bloodshrike learn it, and it turned yellow at around 320 engineering, or making Health Potion Injectors, since he made a ton of Super Health Potions while leveling up Alchemy. Or, I could make Crashin’ Thrashin’ Robots, since I learned that at 325, and those should sell for a good price. Aaaaugh, too many choices!
Arcanite Dragonlings are super expensive to make. 1 Mithril Mechanical Dragonling, 8 Delicate Arcanite transformers, 6 Thorium Widgets, 10 Enchanted Thorium Bars, 6 Enchanted Leather….. I could probably sell one for 500-600 gold, and come out about even on mats. Since I’m making 9 of them for my toons, it’s cost efficient for me to make them first, and worry about selling them later. If I do sell enough of them, it won’t be a problem to come back and make more of them for myself.
Tsuris is now level 34 1/2, waiting for me to come back and finally get him to level 35, and be able to finally powerlevel my first toon past 225 leatherworking. I think I’ll probably go Dragonscale LW, since he’s Enhancement spec, and I like doing DPS rather than healing.

Of Tabby Cats and Faires
1/9/09
What have my toons been up to lately? Morticide on Demon Soul had been camping the Dalaran Spellscribe in Silverpine Forest, hoping for the Black Tabby Cat to drop. The cat is usually sold for at least 200-800 gold on Ally side, since Allies can’t kill the Spellscribe, and he’s the one mob that usually drops it. It only dropped once before the Darkmoon Faire started, and since my druids are usually the ones that have herbalism/engineering, they usually don’t have a lot of stuff in their bags, since all herbs go directly to the alchemist or scribe on that server.
So he’s camping the Faire, getting all the herbs and motes he can. I’m also getting the Wood frog and Tree frog non-attack pets from Flik, though it’s annoying to have to chase him down. I’ll try to start collecting Dark Iron Ale mugs from the AH, since that’s the only way for someone to get Jub Jub, the other non-attack pet available there. They were about 25 gold each on the AH though, so I’ll wait until the faire goes away, and the price will probably drop.
But with Abyss Crystals, Francois can buy them, sell them to me, and I can just sell them directly, no need to craft anything with them. At 130-200 gold a pop, that’s easy money!
Gimmershred is doing the same thing on Darrowmere, but I have Misericorde still camped in Silverpine, killing the Spellscribe. I’ve probably had about 5 of the cats drop for me so far, though I’m waiting for Francois’s toons to actually have a sale of one on Alliance side. 300-400 gold isn’t that much, rite rite? :p
I’m glad of another thing with the Wrath expansion. Abyss crystals!! For a while, Void Crystals were my main way of moving gold from Horde to Ally side, or vice versa. But after a while, the price dropped from about 40 gold each to about 2-4 gold each. Not worth Francois stocking up on, and not worth me taking the time to sell. Luckily, on Demon Soul and Daggerspine, I’ve gotten both my mages up to 300 enchanting, so they can do Crusader, Lifesteal, Fiery, Icey, Unholy, and Major Health (100) to chest. Those sell very nicely on the AH after I’ve put them on vellums, and it’s easy for Francois to get the mats for them and have me buy them on the Neutral AH for 1 copper a stack of Greater Eternal Essence, Illusion Dust, Large and Small Radiant/Brilliant shards, and other things. Francois’ toons try to get a bargain on them, but it doesn’t really matter that much, since the gold they’ve made on the opposide side of the server cost me a few silver or gold, and it all gets sold for 100 or 1000 times its original price.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
12/29/08
Since the Feast of Winter Veil began, it’s given me the kick in the butt needed to level up some of my toons, so I could do the “You’re a mean one, Mr. Greench” and “Save Metzen the Reindeer” quests before the event ends. On Daggerspine, I leveled up a bunch of my toons by doing the Greench quest in Alterac mountains, along with all the other quests from Southshore. Ryo went from 37 to 39, Gwidd got to 39 as well, Aos got to 43, Kishi got to 44, and Panzer finally dinged 40 (woot, plate mail time!).
Hangfire is level 35 though, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can take down the Greench. But, with a Mechanical Dragonling and Shrink Ray to help, along with a Big One bomb and a Target Dummy, not to mention the Lifebloom buff from Herbalism, I think he’ll be able to get it done.
I’m doing the same thing on Demon Soul too, having my toons get all the quests from Tarren Mill before heading up to Alterac. For most of the toons that can do the quests, they’re level 40+ already, so it’s not that hard for them, but the Metzen quest might be a bit tough, since he’s surrounded by level 40 something pirates, and they keep on adding to the fight, since they run and get help. Granted, this was my experience with my level 55 hunter, and I wasn’t really worried about pulling in singles, I just wanted to nuke everything as fast as possible.
Oooh, oooooh! Tsuris finally hit level 30 last night. For some reason, my Shaman/leatherworkers, Druid/herbalists, and Priests don’t get a lot of play from me. I’ve never gotten a leatherworker above 225, because all 3 of them are still in their 20’s. Well, until last night. I decided to clear out some of Tsuris’s quests, one thing led to another, I laid a trail of slaughter all the way through Duskwood….y’know, the usual. I was doing the Wolves on our Heels/8-legged Menaces/Lean wolf flank quests in the northwest part of Duskwood, and I got bored waiting for the meat to drop, so I was starting to see how many wolves I could collect before AOE’ing them with Solid Dynamite, then cutting them down with my shiny axe buffed with Windfury. Granted, those were only level 20ish wolves, and I’m level 30, but enough low level enemies can still hurt.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I took engineering to its low level limits. At level 29, I picked up the quest to kill 12 Darkrunner Worgen. There’s a group of them directly west of Darkshire, near the mountain in the middle of Duskwood. I had been picking off a few Darkrunners here and there, but when I saw the village, I decided to do a full-on attack, and wipe it all out. I buffed up with a scroll of stamina, cooking for +8 stamina and spirit, got my electrical orbs spinning, and used my Mechanical Dragonling as I was running to attack. I quickly swapped it out for the Cloaking Device, since I hadn’t entered combat yet, and wanted the option to bug out if it looked like I was going to lose. I jumped into the village, tossed down a Stoneskin totem, started swinging at the nearest Worgen, and quickly let off a Big One bomb (400-500 damage). Following that, I threw down a Target dummy, to hopefully distract them for a second or two. At level 10, they’d keep hitting the Target dummy until it blew up, but at level 25+, you put out too much aggro, and the monsters see you as more of a threat than some paper figurine waving back and forth. It was a bit iffy for a second, but I got through through the fight with some judicious use of my Flame Shock spell and Magma? totem for additional damage, not too mention my dragonling chewing on them from the side. After the fight is done, I’m at 10% health, but still alive, and he runs off and starts attacking another Worgen! I used a Mageweave bandage, and went to help the dragonling, since I knew he’d be despawning soon anyway. But hey, at least he bought me some time to bandage…..which I would have had anyway, if he wasn’t such a bloodthirsty little beast…..ehh, whaddya gonna do.

The Definitive Guide to making Gold in WOW
12/23/08
I'm not sure how much I've covered in my previous posts, so I figured I would do a recap of easy ways to make Gold in World of Warcraft.
1 - Beg for it. Swallow your pride, ignore people giving you advice on how to make money by taking up gathering/crafting professions, and spam the trade channel tirelessly with comments like "I'm level 6, and need 10 gold 4 new armorz" "Can anyone give me money for my epic ride? I pay back next week, swear!"
It will work, eventually. Someone will get tired of your whining and give you a few gold to shut you up.
(The above is sarcasm, just felt like listing it)
2 - Take up a gathering profession. Herbalism, Skinning, and Mining will all give you a good gold return for the few seconds it takes to gather a metal/herb node or skin a beast.
3 - Take up a crafting profession. Leatherworking, Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, Inscription, and even Engineering can produce items to make you money. Inscription is the newest one, and as such, if you log in every 20+ hours to do your Minor Inscription Research, you can make a lot of money off the minor glyphs pretty early on. The other professions usually don't start making money until later levels.
4 - If you've downloaded Auctioneer, you can use Bottomscanner or whatever it's called to gather prices of all the items in the AH. Keep doing this regularly, and your computer will build up a database of prices for the items. This will allow you to see when someone posts an item below the average price, which you can buy and resell for a profit. (Not my favorite way to make gold, but to each his own)
5 - Whenever you pass by a tradeskill supplies vendor, peruse their stock to see if they have recipes for sale. For example, Rikqiz in Booty Bay sells the Shadowskin Gloves recipe for 35 silver, but you can easily sell it for 5-8 gold in the Auction House. Some recipes sell very well, others bomb. You kinda have to develop a sense for them.
6 - Become a Neutral Auction House (NAH) supplier. There are certain recipes that are Horde or Alliance ONLY, buyable only by someone of that faction. But, if you buy them, and bring them to the NAH, you can post them for much, much more than they're worth. The Pattern: Red Whelp Gloves is sold in the Wetlands by Wenna Silkbeard for 14 silver and 40 copper. If you left an Alliance alt there, and logged in every few hours, you could build up a bunch of the recipes for only a few gold. But, you can sell each of those recipes for at least 6-10 gold on the NAH, since Horde players can't normally get them. Check here for a full list. http://www.wowwiki.com/Faction_exclusive_recipes
The Recipe: Tasty Lion Steak can be bought on Alliance auction houses for 1-2 gold, since it's quest reward, and not everyone decided to take up cooking. You could probably get at least 20-30 gold for it on the NAH.
Formula: Enchant Chest - Lesser Mana is sold for 4 silver in the Drag in Orgrimmar, and I'm guessing you could get 8-10 gold for it.
There's also recipes that you only have to go a little ways into a profession to get, like Plans: Heavy Copper Longsword & Plans: Ironforge Breastplate, a level 5 alliance player can powerlevel his blacksmithing to about 50, make the necessary items, complete the quests, and be able to sell the Ironforge plans for at least 100g.
I'm conjecturing on some of these items, because I stopped posting on the neutral auction house a long time ago. I discovered a better way, shown below
7 - Become a smuggler. Know someone who plays Warcraft, and isn't on your server already? Congrats, they just became your new best friend. You can work out an arrangement, where they create a toon on the opposite faction, you buy a worthless item from them for a few gold, and they go buy the recipes/pets you want. They bring them back to the NAH, post them for 1 copper bid/buyout, and congrats, you have a recipe/pet that you didn't have to spend a ton of gold on. If they're really accomodating, they can get multiples, and you can bring them back to your AH to make a killing.
The 12 cooking recipes (except the Curiously Tasty Omelet) sold by Kendor Kabonka in Old Town in Stormwind, on the second story landing above the cooking trainer can be bought for about 1 gold for the set. Get them over to Horde side, and you can sell them for 6-8-10-15-20-30 gold EACH, depending on what people will pay for them. Go high, and work your way down.
The Savory Deviate Delight and the lesser known Elixir of Giant Growth recipes are Barrens only drops, which means Horde toons are usually the only characters to get them, as Allies don't spend too much time grinding those mobs. You can probably get the Giant Growth recipe for 2-10 gold, and the Savory recipe for 20-50 gold. Get them to Ally side (with your friend helping you), and the Giant Growth can sell for up to 100g, and the Savory will sell for 250-300g.
If you do a little of each of the above steps (except #1), you'll soon have enough to provide you with enough gold to do whatever you want. If you don't suffer from altoholism like me, your main will have more gold than they know what to do with.

Dear Santa, for Christmas I'd like an 11th character slot
12/1/08
Well, I haven’t done anything with Bloodshrike on Demon Soul, mainly because I know he’ll be doing green quests, and not getting much xp for them. I’m also hoping against hope that they’ll open up an 11th slot for Death Knights, not out of any affection for Sansetsukon, but I do really like my twinks Doomslinger (Daggerspine) and Annihilus (Darrowmere). It would be nice to have a Death Knight on those servers as well, but it’s taken a long time to get where I am, so I don’t really want to give any of the toons up……..well, maybe my priests could be axed, but nobody else, really.
I’m much more of the “Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!” type of player, rather than doing the healing thing.
Speaking of Doomslinger, I took her out for a BG over the weekend. Only 1 BG, but apparently the Horde were honor farming, as they took a while to finally get the last flag. I racked up 49 kills in that game, coming in 3rd, and that was because I played defense most of the time. I would occasionally foray out onto the middle, burn down a few Hordies, and make a run for the flag, before getting hit from all sides and taken down.
I realized that I might have made a better showing if I actually had weapon skill in 2-handed axes, as I had about 5/95 when I went into the BG. I also got +9 stamina to bracers from Clock, and changed out a few pieces of equipment, so hopefully I’ll be even tougher next time.
Gwiddonyn is now level 34 1/2, just aching to get to 35 to powerlevel Alchemy and Engineering. Once I get to 275 Alchemy, she’ll have about 160 Arcanite Transmutes to do, so I think that’ll bring her up to 300 easily. Since she’s a Gnome, and has the passive +15 to engineering, I think I’ll have her do Mithril Mechanical Dragonlings from 250 onwards, to build up a stockpile for when I start making Arcanite Dragonlings. Now I just need to get a toon to 50 on Daggerspine....

The Death of a Twink
11/26/08

Bloodshrike got to level 53 last night, finishing up all the yellow quests I had in my quest log for Hinterlands. Actually, it was probably about 5 quests that got knocked out in one area (Jintha’Alor), which is very nice, as I hate having to do a quest in an area, only to find out that I have to come back there to kill a group of monsters that were RIGHT NEXT to the ones I went there for originally. The Harpy quests in NW Barrens comes to mind, as you have to travel up there THREE different times in the quest chain to get to the end quest.
But in Jintha’Alor, I just ran through, killing X number of mobs, collecting 10 of the cauldrons, finding the Huntsman’s Skull and Bones in the sludge pit and wolf den, freeing Elder Runetusk, killing the High Priestess Hexx (she didn’t stand a chance against my pet and my dragonling, even though she polymorphed me), and finally hearthing back to the village to turn them all in. There’s still a few green quests that I could do, but I’m not sure where to go after this. Maybe Felwood in Durotar, I think Alchemists can get recipes by grinding Timbermaw rep.
Unfortunately, there’s no engineering recipes they give, which also goes for Thorium Brotherhood rep, so I probably won’t be grind rep for them. I think Thorium Brotherhood is only for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Enchanting…..and maybe Alchemy? I checked--alchemists can transmute 1 Heart of Fire into 3 Elemental Fire with Friendly Rep. Wow, totally not worth it.
It looks like Alchemists can get Transmute: Earth to Water at Friendly status to Timbermaw, so maybe he’ll do that. Alchemists and Engineers are screwed on Cenarion Circle rep as well (Recipes for BS, Ench, LW, Tailor)……Geez, what gives!
So about that Death of a Twink headline – Yup, one of my twinks is going bye-bye. I thought that Blizzard had said that in order to make a Death Knight, you wouldn’t have to change over one of your existing characters, or delete any. I figured wrong. You still can only make 10 toons per account, so I’m going to have to delete Sansetsukon off of Demon Soul if I want to try out a Death Knight. Tauren Hunters…..heck, Tauren anything just aren’t that fun to me. I like my Tauren Warrior Bullkathos, but on Demon Soul, I also have a Tauren Shaman and Druid, as well as the twink hunter. There’s not really enough character design implemented to make them look very different from each other, which is something that you can do with Blood Elves. All …..6 of the BE on Darrowmere look totally different from one another, which is very cool. They also don’t have that hunchback look that Undead, Tauren, Orcs, and Trolls tend to have. BE’s are the only ones that stand up straight in the Horde Faction.
Anyways, Sansetsukon needs to be axed. I think I only played him in Battlegrounds once, to get the Olympic Tabard, so it’s no big loss. I spent a hundred or so gold on his bank slots, but with 33k gold on Demon Soul, I think I can afford it.
I’ll give it until I hit 55 with Bloodshrike, and see if they will magically open up another slot then.

Getting over the hump of leveling
11/24/08
Wahoo! Bloodshrike, my first toon, is now level 51 and a half! I just started playing him again this weekend, and gained about 3 or so levels, and a lot of it was from finishing up green quests in the Badlands. Why was a level 48+ questing in the Badlands? Well, I wanted to do the Uldaman Reagent run to get the Restorative Potion recipe, so I accepted the other quests while I was there.
Running around Uldaman as a level 50 is fun! I ran clockwise around the area before the instance, and even went into the instance, but decided not to push my luck. I got the Adventurers Pith Helmet as one of my drops, which will serve Kukoshakaku or Morticide very nicely once they level up.
After that, I moseyed over to Burning Steppes (I think, whatever zone is west of Badlands) and did the quests for the Outhouse. I even ran up to the tunnel to Loch Modan, and found out that a Large Seaforium Charge will pick the lock to the tunnel. I’m not sure if a small one will do it, but you’d better have 2 of whatever you got, because the door shuts behind you pretty quickly. Luckily, I did have 2 Large Sea charges, so I was able to get out of there. After that, I went over to Un’Goro Crater, and was doing the Sticky Stuff quest, along with all the rest of the quests I picked up at the Marshal’s Refuge. The only one I got completed was the Sticky Stuff quest, along with getting 20 Un’Goro soil to turn in at Thunder Bluff. I’ll come back to it after I finish the Hinterlands.
Next, I went to the Hinterlands, stopping first in Arathi to do the level 225 First Aid quest. Easy enough, but 60 Mageweave wasn’t enough to get me up to Runecloth bandages, so I had to have Bullkathos send me another 40. Then, he had to send me more runecloth, since the 60 I brought didn’t get me up to level 300. Once that was done, I flew over to the Hinterlands. I accepted all the quests in the village, and had to drop some of the Un’Goro quests to get all of them, but they were yellow to red, so I’ll be able to see them even without low level quest tracking turned on. Snapjaws, Mon!, Gammerita, Mon!, Lard’s Lunch, and the Pupellyverberos port quest from Booty Bay are all on the same stretch of beach in the Hinterlands.

Fear me…. FEAR ME……fear ME!!!!

I’m really getting into the whole macro thing, since I don’t like to use much more than my left hand to hit attacks and spells. Francois uses WASD to move, and clicks his spells individually….well, at least he did. His first toon is a Feral Cat form druid, but even at level 70, he doesn’t have to use more than 4 attacks, so he usually goes click, click, click, click in sequence, then repeats.
I couldn’t do that. I try to get as many spells as I can up on my action bars, so I’ll have easy access to them. Moreover, I want them all to be either on ASDFG ZXCVB WE 1234567, or I don’t really use them. 7 is usually reserved for summon mount, 6 is usually a healing potion, 1-3 are usually engineering bombs or target dummies. BTW, I use CT Mod, so when I refer to 1-7, that’s 1-7 on Action bar 4, and I usually have Action bar 5 above, for the abilities that I will only click on to activate, since I use them so rarely. Things like Blizzard or Hellfire, where I’d be in a dungeon, only providing DPS. Me + Dungeon = a rare occasion.
Anyways, I modified a macro that I had stumbled across on someone’s site, and gave it my own twist.
#showtooltip
/cast [nomodifier] Death Coil
/cast [modifier:alt] Fear
/cast [modifier:ctrl] Howl of Terror
/stopcasting
So, it would use Death Coil if I hit B, if I hold Alt+B it would use Fear, and holding Ctrl+B you could use Howl of Terror

Engineering: The great Equalizer

I have 2 stories, both similar in type. I was taking Bonescourge my level 41 Undead Warlock over to Arathi Highlands to finish up some quests there, and to help a friend do some quests as well. As I’m waiting for the zeppelin by Orgrimmar, a level 52 Orc hunter challenges me to a duel, because he was “board.” I offered some nails, and he laughed. After some consideration, I accepted the challenge. The countdown ended, and I immediately hit my /petattack /shadowbolt macro, followed up by Corruption and my other DOT spell. After a few seconds, he calls his pet BACK to help him out, since my Voidwalker is evidently doing more damage than he expected. I really wasn’t taking the duel seriously, or else I would have pulled out one of my dragonlings or my chicken. I didn’t think I’d win. Well, I didn’t, and that was my fault. At the end, he had about 5% health left, and had started concentrating fire on me, with his pet attacking me. I started casting a Fel Iron Bomb, but it was too late. But hey! Level 41 against a level 52, not too bad!
My friend Francois was helping his wife Darla level in Hillsbrad last night, and has a story with a better end. He’s a level 46 Troll hunter, and she’s a level 28 BE rogue. They were running around doing quests, and occasionally getting nuked by bored 70’s with nothing better to do. Not much you can do, just do a /bored or /violin at them while they’re attacking you, so they don’t get the satisfaction of watching you run.
Anyway, they were running along the south side of the main road in Hillsbrad, when they see a level 52 druid checking them out. They stop, /wave, and see what he’s going to do. He waits a bit, and then starts casting Wrath. Francois really didn’t want to get into it, so he decides to take the hit and see if the guy will quit. It hits him, the guy gets another one off, and Francois said “Enough.” He tells his pet to attack, Humar takes off out of Prowl, and starts hitting the druid. Francois starts running towards the druid, firing as he runs, and between his shots and his pet, they get the druid down to about 2/3’s health, same as Francois. When he gets near enough, he hits his Mithril Mechanical Dragonling. The druid sees it, and freakin’ bolts for Southshore. Too late! A couple of hits from Humar and the dragonling, and the druid is toast. Chalk one up to Engineering!
Heh, I just thought of a great macro to use.

So from an opponent’s point of view, he sees a hunter run up on him, and suddenly he’s faced with 3 dragons AND a hunter. Granted, the non-attack pet won’t do anything, but from an intimidation standpoint, that would be quite scary to see all of them surrounding the hunter. You’d have to have a Windserpent, and as a Horde hunter, you’d want Arikara, since he’s the only pet in the game to appear in a puff of smoke and explosive noise. The rundown of the engineering dragonlings would make sure that it would switch to your highest available Dragonling, which you should have equipped anyway. If not, it would equip it if you were out of combat, and then you’d have to wait 30 seconds for the cooldown, which would spoil the effect somewhat.
On a closing note, I bought a Phantom Blade for Clockworknyt on Demon Soul for 100g. Why did I buy it, when I have Bullkathos, who’s level 300 Blacksmithing? It would cost me more for the mats, with the high prices of Breath of Wind and gems on that server. Anyway, I’m finally starting to get into doing high level enchanting recipes with Banesidhe, since he has Crusader, Lifesteal, Fiery, Icy Chill, Unholy….might as well start using them, now that the money is rolling in from the Lifelike Mechanical Toads that Bonescourge makes, and the minor Inscriptions that ….Bonescourge inscribes. Hmmm, didn’t think about it, but he’s jumped up from about 200 gold, to about 1800 gold in just about a week or so. I had a 500 gold day yesterday, as in opened my mailbox, walked away, and came back to being 500 gold richer. Pretty sweet for level 42.
But I digress. I decided to get the Phantom Blade, and put Lifesteal on it for Clockworknyt, my BE paladin. I had started leveling my new BE paladin on Darrowmere, and was astonished at how well the Seals and Judgement system worked. I figure, with the health from the Judgement of Life, PLUS Lifesteal, I’ll be pretty hard to beat in encounters with Allies on Demon Soul. I also like the bonuses on the weapon Phantom Blade, as it gives a Sunder like ability, as well as stealth prevention when you’re fighting rogues. The violet glow that Lifesteal gives the sword is nice, but I prefer my crossed Fiery and Icy Phantom Blades that Bullkathos wears on his back.

Judge not, lest you be judged........ screw dat, I'm a Judging fool.
11/10/08
Ding! I got a few characters out leveling this weekend, Bloodshrike the original, going from 45 to 47 in a few hours, making him my highest toon ever. Level 50 and 300-375 Engineering and Alchemy are so close I can smell them! I had fun playing him, running some quests in STV to get them out of my quest log. The Stranglethorn hunting quests were fun, I’d gather a bunch of raptors together before setting off a Dense dynamite and a Explosive trap, bringing 6 raptors or so to near death almost instantly. It’s funny, I usually avoid STV while leveling, because there’s usually so much ganking going on there that it’s not fun for me. However, as a level 47, nobody bothered me.
I also got my newest Paladin (Misericorde) out leveling, going from level 22 to 24 just by running from Splintertree Post in Ashenvale to the Zoram Strand, and completing a few quests along the way like The Sacred Flame quest, along with Shadumbra and Ursangous, and the Wrathtail heads along with the escort quest at Zoram Strand. I also went over to Black Fathom Deeps to pick up the Corrupted Kor Gem for my The Blood-Tempered Ranseur , even though I had picked up a better axe from Shadowfang keep when I had someone run me through it to get the the Crate of Bloodforged Ingots.
I haven’t played my paladins since before the patch broke, so this was my first time playing after the patch. I gotta say, I like it! No need to charge seals to get the judgements you want to apply, you just have to have A seal running, and you can judge away every time the cooldown cycles. The way it was before, I’d power up the seal that would weaken enemies toward Holy when they were judged, judge them, and switch to the Seal that gave extra Holy damage. Judgement of Light (JoL) rocks, btw! I’m barely using any mana, since my seals are staying up for 2 minutes, and the only mana output is my judgements every 10 seconds of so. On top of that, I’m always staying at full life easily, since JoL has a chance to proc healing on you too. At level 23, I was able to take down Shadumbra (lvl 28) by myself, with only one use of Solid dynamite and Target Dummy. I could have probably done it without, too, but you might as well use all the resources at your disposal. :)
I got my first HK, too. As I was looking for the Warsong Outrider to the east of Splintertree, I ran into a level 26 gnome mage and level 31 gnome rogue coming up the road. I figured they were about to gank me, so I hit back first. I started judging the mage, while letting off Consecration and a Solid Dynamite, and was able to take out the mage and get the rogue to half health before getting killed. They camped my body, and I wasn’t able to get any more kills off them, while they killed me about 2 more times. But, since I just hit 24, I’ll be equipping my Shining Silver Breastplate with a 100 health enchant, so that’ll give me a lot more health and armor.

11/6/08
Clockwrkmage is now 300 enchanting, with Lifesteal and a bunch of other level 300 enchanting recipes learned. I had thought that Lifesteal was an expensive enchant, but it uses items that I’ve saved up a ton of (Essence of Undeath, Living essence, Large Brilliant Shard?), so I was able to make 3 of them easily, and I put them on the AH at 80-100 gold each. Surprisingly, it was still able to fit on an armor vellum (1), cause it has no level restriction. Maybe they only made level restrictions for stuff that gives a constant buff (12 Agility to Cloak has a item level 35 requirement), not for enchants that proc (Lifesteal, Fiery, Mongoose). I also put up about 4 Fiery enchants at 30-35 gold, when the small radiant shards only cost me about 4g each, and I had a ton of Essence of Fire.
Bonescourge explored the Wetlands while getting the channeling rods to summon the Felhound, and then continued on to the Badlands. That area has a few crafted item turnin quests (Frost Oil, Gyrochronomatom) along with regular items (Blue Pearl, Healing Potion), so any toon that goes over there will pick the items up before they get there. I had Bonescourge pick up enough Cockroaches in the Undercity for all my toons, then had Banesidhe port to Silvermoon to get all 3 of the Dragonhawk pets. With what Bonescourge had already learned, that was enough to get him to the “Plenty of Pets” achievement (15 pets), and well on his way to the 50 needed to get the pet skunk. I’m going to need to get the cats from Elwynn Forest, the moths from Exodar, the rabbit from the Dwarf area, and the Owls from Darnassus for all of my toons on Demon Soul and Darrowmere, plus enough to sell on the Auction House.

Lifelike Mechanical Toad = $$$$$$$$
11/3/08
Wanna make some gold? Powerlevel engineering to 265, and get the Lifelike Mechanical Toad recipe. I had been bidding on Thorium widgets for a while now, picking them up when I could get 10 for 3.3 gold, and now there’s a definite use for them. They may have some use for level 300+ recipes, but the Toad recipe uses 4 at a time, making me very glad that I saved up a ton of them. I was able to powerlevel engineering on both Hangfire (NE druid on Daggerspine) and Bonescourge (Undead warlock on Demonsoul) by using that recipe, and it will bring me a ton of gold in return. Since the recipe has such a low drop, it’s pretty easy to get control of the market.
Oh yeah, I also got Hangfire to level 35 last weekend, and this weekend I got Bonescourge to 35, and for some reason I kept going to 40. I had a lot of warlock quests that were mainly “go here, get a few of these items,” and since Bone is my first warlock, I was curious as to what abilities would be unlocked. Doing the prerequisites for those quests in Desolace, I was able to take out Lord Azzeroc for the Corrupter quest line at level 37, and he was a level 40 Elite. I used my Mechanical Dragonling and Death Ray on him, which in retrospect might have been a bad idea. The Death Ray can hurt you pretty badly, so unless you have some way of negating that damage (bubble shield, Gnomish Harm Prevention Belt, Mage shield, Power Word: Shield, or sacrificing your Void walker), it’s not wise to give up a lot of health, especially for a clothie. I suppose I could have let the dragonling start hitting him, sacrificed the VW, hit him with the Death Ray, used my summoning cooldown to summon the VW faster with 50% less mana loss, and had the VW keep tanking.
It’s funny, I still haven’t gotten my Felpuppy (Felhound), but I already defeated the Fel Hunter by Tabetha’s hut in Dustwallow Marsh.
I still haven’t gotten all the way up to Hillsbrad for the Moldy Tome, and then I’ll continue to Arathi for the fire elemental part of the Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe questline (though it’ll probably be useless to me when I get it). Oh well, live and learn. I’m getting used to balancing my health and mana with Life Tap, which is great because Warlocks are mana hungry all the time. Even if I use Life Tap and then a couple of Drain Life’s on the target, I’ll still be lower in health than mana. Oh well, that’s what I have bandages for.
I have gotten more enthused about the patch though, now that I’ve gotten more playtime with it. I love Inscription, with the minor Glyphs, it allows a lot of the recipes to not need reagents anymore. It also freakin’ rules because of the weapon and armor vellums, which allow a powerleveling enchanter to store all their enchants for later use, or to put on the AH. I hated trying to find customers for my enchants, so I’d either waste them (early on), or put them on items for my toons to wear later, which took up a lot of bag space.
With Clockwrkmage on Daggerspine, since she recently got up to level 35 (40 now), she was able to unlock Enchanting from 225-300. I had gotten it up to 265, so I could learn the Fiery Weapon recipe, and I was planning on being a whore by advertising the enchant free with the customers mats, or even providing the Essence of Fire as an inducement. Now, I don’t have to. I am currently around 290 Enchanting, just waiting for items to DE for Illusion dust, so I can get the rest of the way to 300 with the 100 health to chest enchant, which will be put on Armor Vellums so any toon can use them if needed.

Patch 3.02 - Ehh, who needs it
10/16/08
The patch 3.02 hit 2 days ago, and for some reason, I’ve been kinda blahh about it. I’m getting out of selling stuff, and looking for bargains takes up too much time, so I’m not going to do it anymore. The newest patch brought a whole mess of problems with my addons, so I’m going to drop most of them. I liked the original version of Auctioneer, but I think it takes up too much of my ram to run the newest version, and I hate how it displays the auctions.
Fizwidget’s Hunter’s Helper was a great addon to have, listing all the available beasts in the zone that you could learn skills from, but with the patch, it’s not needed (Since now all pets learn their skills automatically as they level). They incorporated a threat meter with the patch, so Omen could probably go bye-bye. About the only ones I think I’ll keep are CT mods, so I can use a lot more than the 10 command boxes in the first bar, and Ackis Recipe list, so I know what recipes I’m missing. Also Gatherer, since it tells me on my minimap where nodes of herb/ore are.

Put on your chute BEFORE jumping off Thunder Bluff, not the reverse
10/6/08

Zed: Edwards. Let's put it on.
Edwards: Put what on?
Zed: The last suit you'll ever wear.
The above is a nod to BRK, who always has a funny image relating to his post.
Gimmershred AND Ghostflame were both leveled to 20 this weekend, with Ghostflame coming from level 15, meaning that I had to *gasp* level without well-rested XP! I hate grinding levels, but I needed to get her up to level 20, so I could unlock 150-225 Alchemy. BTW, that was fun. Once I got back to TB, and unlocked the next level of alchemy, it only took 3 recipes to get me to 225. I made 40 Elixir of Defense for Gavelofpain, so he could make Toughened Leather Gloves with them. Then I made 40 Greater Healing Potions, and ended with 40 Mighty Troll’s Blood Potions. Easiest powerlevel of a profession I ever performed.
Gimmershred finally got to 20, which means he could equip his Parachute Cloak with +12 Agility enchanted on it, giving him 20 Agility in total. The last Cloak any melee class or hunter will need for at least the next 20 levels, which is a rare thing. Usually I upgrade my equipment every 2-4 levels, but I leave that one alone, since it’s so useful to leave it on, and not have to equip it and wait for the cooldown. The total of 20 Agility is just a bonus. HOW is it useful? Any zone you’re in, you’re going to have hills and/or mountains, and this allows you to jump down them without taking damage. I love jumping down from Ethel Rethor in Desolace (by the Argent Dawn quest giver) by going up the hill from him, and jumping towards the pickup quest on the shoreline. It’s also very useful for jumping off of Thunder bluff towards the Darkmoon Faire, or jumping down from the flight point to the bank.

Questing, the 13th step
9/19/08
Well, I got Misericorde on Darrowmere to level 20, and took her over to Silvermoon City to learn her level 20 skills, learn Polearms, and pick up the Blood-Tempered Ranseur quest. I need her to skill up engineering by using only trainer taught recipes, and especially by making Gyrochronomatom, since Gavel needs a whole bunch to make the Mechanical Dragonlings for everyone.
A buddy of mine on Demon Soul just leveled an undead warrior to 70, giving him at least 4 level 70 toons. Troll Rogue, Undead Warrior, Tauren Druid, and Belf Shadow Priest. I, on the other hand, have 30 level 20-45 toons, say, level 30 average. So, 30x30 equals 900, whereas 4x70= 280. I just spend way too much time leveling their professions and secondary professions, and not enough time questing. But, I am getting better. I only have a level 14 priest and level 13 druid on Darrowmere to level to 20, and then ALL my toons (except twinks) will be a level 20 or above. I’ve got 23k gold on Demonsoul, 13k+ on Daggerspine, and about 5k on Darrowmere, so I don’t really need to worry about money anymore. If I can wean myself off the AH, and only sell things, and not worry about getting bargains on mats, that will free up at least a couple of hours a night.

Squishies can haz Death Rays too!

I just figured out something. Gnomes have +15 engineering skill, so they can be 240 engineering at level 20, and be able to make the Death Ray at level 30 after going thru the Gnomish Engineering quest. I figured out that while all squishies can’t equip the Gnomish Harm Prevention belt, since it’s leather, they don’t really need it, since all of them have some sort of damage prevention shield. Mages have Mana Shield, Warlocks can sacrifice their Void Walkers, and Priests have Power Word: Shield. And, later on, they can equip the Nigh Invulnerability belt, since it’s cloth. So, for clothies, they all have a shield that doesn’t have an hour long cooldown like the Harm Prevention Belt. Since I usually use the Harm Prevention belt to negate the Death Ray damage to myself, that's very useful to know!
I’m still working on leveling GavelofPain’s engineering on Darrowmere, but the high cost of Iron Bars/Ores is slowing me down. I don’t mind paying for mats, but 3 gold for a 5 stack of Iron Bars is a bit recockulus. I want each of my toons that hit level 20 to make a 200+ engineering item for the rest of my toons. Gavel will level to about 216 by making Goblin Land Mines, then make 9 Mechanical Dragonlings, so each of my toons will have one except my priest. Once Gimmershred, my level 14 druid, reaches level 20, he’ll make the Cat’s Eye Goggles for everyone. Wartraveler already made 11 Gnomish Cloaking Devices, so everyone has 1, with some left to sell on the AH. Misericorde is the only other toon that can be pressed into service, but since she’s a paladin, she’ll be going thru Gnomish Engineering to get the Death Ray and Battle Chicken, then dropping it, talking to Narain Soothfancy in Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris to switch specialties, then leveling it back up and going Goblin. So, until she does that, she doesn’t get to learn any dropped recipes.

Clockwrkmage needs a mount
9/15/08
Well, over the weekend I brought most of the stuff I’ve been getting on Ally side over to Horde side for Demon Soul and Darrowmere. The friend that has been helping me on the opposite faction got fired from my company, so I don’t know how long he’s going to keep paying for WOW. You know you have too much stuff when you have your OWN guild bank, with 3 tabs, most of your 10 toons have all their bank bag slots purchased, and you STILL have a problem with having too many items. I have probably about 300+ Essence of Air on each of my toons, mainly because it was pretty cheap to bid/buy. I think it’s used in high level blacksmithing recipes, but I’ve got way too many of them. I just made 5 Goblin Jumper Cables XL with Kishigishi, and that barely used up any of the mats I have on her. I need to stop buying, and need to start questing.
So, in that light, I did. Granted, I still took some time to log into the toons camping the Darkmoon Faire on each of my servers, but I concentrated on Clockwrkmage on Daggerspine last night, and got her from 28 to level 30. I was spurred on to do that because I tried to kill Mor’Ladim by Raven Hill, and just barely lost. I led off with Frost Bolt, immediately followed by Fire Ball, and then the instant cast fire blast. After that, I used a Big One, followed up with a fire blast, then frost nova and arcane missiles. I tried tossing up a Target Dummy and bandaging myself while he was distracted, but that healing overrode what little aggro the dummy was putting out, and he turned back to me. I was able to get off a second Big One, hoping it would finish him off, but no such luck. I had no health left, and he had no health, but he was able to get off one last attack, and that was enough to finish me off, and waste all the bombs I put into the fight. I hate being defeated, so I continued on to finish off my other quests, vowing to come back at level 30, when I would have a Mechanical Dragonling to help me out on my fights.
Also, I gotta go back and take care of Gahz’rogg and Blaze in Redridge Mountains. The main quests I did to get from 28 to 30 were the Legend of Stalvan, Worgen in the woods, and the Embalmer quest lines. While killing skeletons for the Night Watch quest line, I ran across Mor’Ladim, and got kilt. I finished my quests, did some of my turn-ins, went to Stormwind for the Defias Docket questline, and hit level 30. It’s mount time!!!!!!............well, kinda. Surprisingly, for an engineering freak, I’m not a fan of the Mechanostrider. I find it too noisy for my tastes. However, I’m already at Revered with Stormwind, so maybe Clock will find herself a nice horse to ride in the near future.
